CD Digipac with 60-page booklet, 31 tracks with a playing time of approximately 72 minutes. The incomparable Little Richard blew the lid off the 50s! 16 US hits and all 14 of his Top 30 UK hits are here. Nothing before or since has sounded wilder than this. 'Mojo' magazine ranked Tutti Frutti first in the 100 Records That Changed The World. Lee Allen (saxophone), Frank Fields (bass), Earl Palmer (drums) and the rest of New Orleans' cornerstone session-men at their fiery best. Also includes tracks featuring Richard's ferocious road band, the fabulous Upsetters. The ultimate Little Richard collection and the working definition of rock 'n' roll on one tidy disc.A wop bop a loo bop a lop bam boom! At long last, our Rocks series turns to Little Richard, one of the great innovators, a true auteur whose enduring series of smash hits on the Specialty label influenced the Western world's most popular artists including Elvis, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Pat Boone, Otis Redding, Prince and the Beatles. Little Richard started at the top and worked upwards. His deliriously frenzied singing and wild, propulsive piano playing fuelled a string of manic hits on both sides of the Atlantic, selling an estimated 18 million copies during the '50s. Tutti Frutti, Long Tall Sally, Lucille, Jenny Jenny, Good Golly Miss Molly, Baby Face....these are the records that made the difference between R&B and primal rock 'n' roll and they're all here. There's also a clutch of non-Specialty tracks of genuine worth including the jump blues, Get Rich Quick from 1951, the semi-secret I'm In Love Again issued under the name of the World Famous Upsetters in 1962, and Get Down With It, a rip-roaring rocker recorded in England in 1966. These add further dimension to a collection of paint-stripping intensity that no one has ever topped.

A great item from Bear Family
Seems to be awhile since BR issued a new CD on Little Richard, but they now offer something well beyond the usual when it comes to reissued Richard. Yes, we find all familiar titles from the '50s but check the final four, post-'50s tracks and note the rarely seen 1962 "underground" single with Richard, though without his name: a cover of Fats Domino's I'M IN LOVE AGAIN [original 45rpm pressing]; a recording made during a 1966 European tour, GET DOWN WITH IT [aka DO THE JERK], not to be confused with the very common rendition from his Okeh "live" album and the rarest of all found on a Modern Records album. A Gospel based soul rocker, with pounding piano and exuberant exhortations by the Architect, it was respectfully redone by the British group Slade. The finale is the high energy jump blues rocker, first heard as the B-side (in the U.S.A.) of "Freedom Blues", complete with some fresh seasoning to fatten up the bass. Keyboard still distant. But still a classy choice.Review incomplete without the mention of Bill Dalh's 59 page booklet with sensational, previously unseen (?) photos of the period. The affiocnados might have some quarrel with mis-information in several spots (music authorship and recording date) but this is surely the best effort since the '80s when Ace aced the Little Richard Specialty box.By the way...the fidelity is absolutely fantastic! A permanent reference for other record companies!

there is so much of Little Richard in their song writing skills and performances that brings the importance of this great man to
There's no question of the impact that Little Richard and Chuck Berry had on rock'n'roll. I would go so far as to say they defined it! That said, Little Richard has a vast catalogue of rockers and ballads instantly recognizable for both their hit status as well as their influence on countless artists who would follow in his footsteps. From Mick Jagger to Elton John, there is so much of Little Richard in their song writing skills and performances that brings the importance of this great man to the annals of rock right up through the current artists today. This collection has his very best wrapped up here in one delightful package. They're all here..."Rip It Up", "Good Golly Miss Molly", "The Girl Can't Help It" and "Miss Annie". The other thing to note here is the sound quality of this disc is brilliant far beyond any other recordings. The engineers who mastered this set really knew what they were doing! Rave on, Little Richard, rave on!

Bear Family Disappoints Big Time On This Cd
Unlike the Lloyd Price Rocks cd that I bought from this label, this Little Richard collection is of atrocious quality for the most part, save the last couple of tracks. Look elsewhere, perhaps Ace Records, Rhino or Specialty reissue

Best ever Little Richard compilation album
This Bear Family release is unquestionably the finest one CD compilation of Little Richard's recordings. Not only does it contain his 50s hits but also later work like the incomparable Get Down With It. The sound quality is excellent throughout and the album is presented in a gatefold sleeve with a 60 page booklet detailing Little Richard's career and times, dates, places and personnel of each track. If you want a good quiz question 'On which Little Richard record did Jimi Hendrix play guitar?' For the answer and 31 fabulous Little Richard tracks buy this album!
