Excellent product, tested on 10 day hunting trip
I purchased these socks to use on my family's annual 10-day hunting trip. I have feet that are almost always chilly, if not downright cold, and waiting for elk at 6 AM at 10,000 ft elevation usually makes the sun popping over the mountains somewhat of a religious experience. In the past I have been so miserable that I can hardly focus on anything but the ice blocks filling my boots. These socks changed hunting season forever. For the first time in my life, my feet were comfortably warm.Pros/Observations:1) The batteries do not interfere with movement. You do not even know they are there. I was able to hike, ride my horse, and sit in various positions without being bothered a bit. The batteries stayed perfectly in place, never grew warm, and were not cumbersome in any way.2) The socks are comfortable without being too thick. Some reviewers complained about the soles being thick. I did not find this to be the case at all. They feel like any other pair of high-quality wool socks I've ever worn. They fit nicely inside my boots, did not cause rubbing, and did not feel any different from a normal sock.3) The heat they produce is surprisingly natural. It doesn't feel like you're wearing a heated sock--it just feels like your feet are staying warm. There were no hot points or cold points. You can leave the socks on a low setting (3 was perfect for me) and enjoy sustained, natural-feeling heat. There's no nonsense like with other products where you turn the heat on, get too hot, then turn it off, then repeat when you get cold again.4) The app is extremely simple and effective, with a clear battery read-out so you know how much juice is left. Linking the batteries to the app is very simple if the instructions are followed.5) The batteries can remain in "standby mode" for an entire day and retain 100% power.6) The batteries lasted on power levels 3-7 for 16+ hours on average.Cons/Observations:1) These socks are definitely best suited to all-day cold. The only issue I ran into (which isn't a defect in the socks at all) is that they were great for the mornings but brutally warm in the afternoons (turned off, of course). But, such is hunting in Colorado in September (10 degrees at 4 AM, 75 degrees at 4 PM). If you intend to use them when it's cold part of the day and warm the other part, I recommend packing a lighter pair of socks. One plus, though, is that they are wool, which means that even if your feet get sweaty you don't feel like you're walking in a puddle. You just feel hot.2) You cannot turn off the batteries, only put them in standby mode which automatically shuts off after 10 minutes (sometimes). The first night I had the batteries, they remained flashing in standby mode for more than 24 hours. The batteries stayed at 100% so it doesn't really matter, but it annoyed me that I couldn't just turn them off. I expect this feature exists so you can't accidentally turn them off during activities.3) It really is ridiculous to drop $300 on a pair of socks then have to pay $5 for the app. You don't HAVE to have the app, but it is a great tool for specific heat control and battery monitoring.Sizing: I am a female, 5'8, 170 lbs, shoe size 9 women's, 7.5-8 men's. I ordered the medium socks and they were perfect for me, if just the tiniest touch on the large side. I found them to be just a little tight on my calves with the band folded over to the conceal the battery, but not uncomfortably so.The bottom line:I would definitely purchase these socks again. The natural quality of the heat still boggles my mind but impresses me enormously. These socks alone changed hunting from a grueling endeavor to an enjoyable sport.

Great product, but....
I bought these socks for hunting. I have chronically cold feet in the winter. After sitting immobile in ground/ tree blinds for several hours a day for the past 2 weeks with cold feet, I decided to buy some warm feet. These socks provide comfortable warmth (not heat) from heel to toe for several hours a day. Just what I need. While I have not been back out hunting yet, I have worn them regularly indoors and out in 6-30F temps for the last few days. My feet were always comfortably warm. I have yet to exceed a heat setting of 2, so I know I'll have plenty of extra heat available if I need it during a long sit outside. I couldn't ask for more.Having said that, after paying $300 for the socks, the $5 charge for the full control app is a ripoff! You can forego any remote control and just push the buttons on the battery packs, but that's pretty hard to do when you're wearing layers of clothing for cold weather activities. Don't even bother with the free app. You get what you pay for and it's worthless. The free basic app gives you 3 heat settings and will put the batteries in standby mode, but will not turn them off. Supposedly they turn off after 12 hours, but I had one unit stay on for 24 hours. The paid app gives you immediate 0-10 heat settings and immediate on/off. Who wouldn't want maximum, on demand, control of all settings on an expensive pair of socks? Paying extra for the "privilege" is cheesy and sleazy! As to performance, I first wore these socks without another sock. You can feel the wires in the soles. I didn't find this bothersome, but most of my activity is a short walk to a blind and then several hours of sitting still. A small price to pay for warm feet. I don't know how they would feel if I wasskiing or hiking long distances. They also had a tendency to slip down into my boot and bunch up under my foot. I bought a pair of Incrediwear ski socks and wore them underneath these socks. The total thickness is about the same as a thick pair of wool socks (that don't keep my feet warm). Not only does this combination provide incredibly even warmth without sweating, it also minimized the slippage and the feel of the wires.I gave this product 3 stars. For performance it deserves 4-4 1/2. My rating is a protest for gigging me $5 for the maximum control app.

Calf is TOO TIGHT OMG / 5'4inch and only 120 lbs < me
I have NORMAL woman legs and once you turn the tops on these to cover the batteriesthe cuff at the top of my calf hurt so much my feet went numb! (I'm only 5'4" 120lbsaverage size woman & legs! OMG. I tried I did to enjoy them. My feet were never HOT,but instead these just kept them at room temp which was okay....enough...sigh. Set upis very confusing manual is poorly written. Also the battery constantly flashes no wayto turn off/not draining but no way to turn off. Since worn 2x I can't return so am sellingnow on another website that rhymes with e-stay. :) Customer service said they sell thesethrough over 100 retailers and they do make a slim version but mine were not slim.Wow, what do the heavy people wear???? Shame. The low heat and calf pain were justnot worth the money / no.

SKI Boots: These Socks are great, The way the battery pack attaches to the sock you have no idea they are even on your feet. The heating setting of 2 kept me warm enough to ski without my toes feeling frozen. I wore them on a day when it was below zero on the mountain. Please note if you are expecting your feet to be toasty warm, I did not have that experience even on the high setting, but it did allow me to ski the whole day comfortably.Notes: I did see the app is now available as a free app on the google play store. My phone was backleveled and so I could not use the remote function, however controlling the unit from the battery was not a big deal.Update: So I now have a smart phone that supports the App and that works quite well, especially the ability to monitor the battery strength. However you do have pay $4.99 for the app which considering how much these cost seems ridiculous
