If you're talking about sealing the corners, yes. If you're talking about securing the surround itself to the walls, I would say no. There are specific adhesives designed for securing the surround sides to the walls, depending on what the walls are made of (brick, wallboard, plaster, etc.)

Will paint adhere to it?

Almost certain no. The box says, "Note: Paint will not adhere to cured silicone"
