Can someone please explain to me why I had to buy this?

Hello, this is a mini model, and it has a unique black color. It has screw locks on all four sides. It can be debugged by yourself and has a stylish appearance. The first choice for adults and children when they are bored is still a very good gift.

This box is covered in brown paper instead of the gloss black color noted in the picture. Am I suppose to takeoff the brown paper off so it is black?

Yes, you need to remove the kraft paper to make it black. Kraft paper just protects the box from scratches.

What exactly does this box do???????

Nothing, absolutely nothing. You push the switch forwards, it opens up and pushes the switch backwards, then closes. You push it again, it opens up and pushes the switch backwards, then closes. Some people will spend hours trying to get it to open and stay, so they can see what's inside. Until the battery goes dead, they'll never succeed. Well worth the laughs, watching them. Whenever you want to do absolutely nothing, push the switch. LOL

Is there a speed adjustment? It's perfectly timed for a sudden chuckle but it'd be a lot funnier if the motion was a little slower to add suspense
