Absolutely Great
I was recently looking at some notes, lyric printouts, etc. I made about ten years ago. I had fallen in love at that time ... with samba, bossa nova, Tropicalia, MPB - the whole Brazilian thing. One of my notes said "Gal Costa, '68, not available, Gal on cover wearing boa." Too bad, because Gal had become one of my favorites (her album A Todo Vapor is one of my favorites of any genre). Was I happy then to check and find this new reissue. The songs (by Caetano Veloso, Jorge Ben, Gilberto Gil, Roberto & Erasmo Carlos, Tom Zé) Rogério Duprat's killing arrangements, Gal's singing - just great. And kudos to Peter Margasak for very informative liner notes (dated May 2014); oh how I, an American, wish more of this great Brazilian gift to the world came packaged so nicely.

Gal Costa
Brilliant Tropilcalia album. A heady blend of 60s psychedelia, bossa nova, jazz, pop. To my ears, this is probably Gal's best overall effort, although you really can't go wrong with any of her first four solo studio albums.Glad someone finally reissued this CD so one does not have to drop an excessive amount for the long out-of-print version. Key word is reissued. They didn't do some crummy, tinny remixing & remastering job that completely changes the feel of the original. Just reprinted the thing (and added some English liner notes). Thanks!

Good CD by Gal Costa
This is a Good CD, not a Great one by Diva Gal Costa, not too many hits, and not the usual Gal Costa we are used to, but two tracks salvaged this recording; (Me Faz Bem), written by Milton Nascimento and Fernando Brant, and above all (Muito Por Demais)written by Gonzaguinha. This track is a must-have for collectors of Gal's music; it's a true gem, and you cannot find it anywhere else; besides, there are 2 duets that are very interesting here; one with Caetano Veloso and one with Tim Maia.

Worth the wait!
It's been a long long time comming, but I finally managed to get my hands on this masterpiece of brazilian avante / pop / psyche. Along with Caetano Veloso and Os Mutantes, Gal was one of the prime movers and shakers of the legendary tropicalia movement in Brazil in the late 60's early 70's. Needless to say this is quite possibly one of the best of all the tropicalia records. Super smooth sultry vocals, ehcoed all over the place, tweaked out bizarre orchestrations, great songs, and some of the most hauntingly beautiful signing ever recorded. Her first record is a lot weirder, kind of like streisand on acid, this ones a lil easier on the ears, with a more sophisticated sound and less searing fuzz tones. After this she put out a couple more very hot records and then fell off into the jazz / pop blackhole but on this gloriously realised record she created her masterpiece, and one of the coolest pop records of the late 60's.

Lost in Paradise
Needs a remaster and rerelease. This is a true gem of psychedelic tropical pop. You can find this album in a couple of different pressings. Just look for the order of songs noted above.

Bootleg copy
This was a bootleg copy just fyi. A Russian copy. Sounds okay, mixed a little quiet. I’d look for the Polysom reissue instead.
