The console shows the number of the first entry. Note that each button will make its own silly sound, regardless of position. As host, you need to read the number and call that person... it resets in 3 sec or so, and it starts over again.

Can you turn the sound off?

No. To turn off the buzzers, you have to take the batteries out.
