Yes, it is 100% waterproof. TO TEST THE WATERPROOF, the outer is waterproof layer, so pls turn the socks outside in and pour the water into it, then you can observe whether it is leaking.

The first one listed, black with colored stripes in the middle, it's listed as "compression sock" but others say "waterproof." Are they all the same?

If your question refers to the 100% waterproof skiing socks then they are waterproof. If these socks are like the waterproof socks I purchased then they are extremely tight fitting and can act like a compression sock. As far as being waterproof, The socks I purchased were waterproof but the feet tend to sweat alot and in that regard your feet will be wet if you have the socks on all day.

It says knee length sock. the "black" pairs look knee length in the picture. the colored pairs look calf style. are they all knee length?

Hello, pls kindly note that the tube length(from the heel to the top) of the "black" pairs(size L) and the colored pairs(size L) are all 15.75 in(40cm). They look different because they are in different models of feet.:)

Do they go completely over the calf to the bottom of the knee?

Stretched out, how long are the socks from the bottom of the foot up to the bottom of the knee? Mine measures 19".
