Revised review - Better than initially thought it was
It has taken a little time to figure out how to get the best sound out of this little amp, the instructions are not that helpful. After I added the fly103 extension cabinet and figured out 1) it cannot handle active electronics, so set the pass in passive mode, and 2) the little "sub" knob adds tremendously to the bottom end of the amp, I found this thing to be surprisingly capable of putting out decent sound, especially for it's size. It's not a set-up for performance or playing with another instrument, but it is excellent as a practice amp when playing solo and trying not to annoy neighbors. I would suggest buying the package to include the extension cabinet and the AC converter. I've been playing it for a week 2 hours/day and haven't worn out the batteries yet, but could get expensive if you don't have the converter.

Compact, but…
Great tone, very compact, but has some low level digital noise that I don’t love. I returned it.

Best small battery amp in my opinion
I've tried a number of small battery powered amps, to include the Danelectro Sweet Honey, Fender Mini Twin, Orange Micro crush, Roland Micro Cube, among a couple others I can't recall. The Danelectro and Fender amps just sound horrible if you turn them up past whisper volume. I found the Micro Crush and Micro Cube to be way too loud given their intended use. I wanted a amp I could play quietly, not at whisper volumes, but quiet enough so as not to disturb other house occupants.Blackstar nailed it here! For being a little plastic battery powered amp, this little guy can produce awesome tone, clean or overdriven, at my target volumes! Truthfully, I think this amp is an excellent investment to literally guitarists at all skill levels. Experienced players would at the very least find this amp's tones satisfying, and it's extremely portable. Beginners would be able to start with an amp that can be played at reasonable volumes, isn't too simple or too complex to experiment with dialing in tones, and sorry if I sound arrogant, but I think this amp sounds leagues better than any of the amps you see packaged in electric guitar starter sets. This amp sounds so good, a fellow guitarist actually mistook this amp's tones for my Blackstar HT5-R's tones once! I'm sure he went and bought one too!

Great tiny amp for the price.
This amp has been very good to me so far. I have had it for a bit over a month now so I can practice at work. It's worth noting that I am not a very good bassist as I have been practicing off and on (mostly off) for the last 12 years, about since when I was 13, but with this amp I have been playing at least an hour a day every day since I got it.. I have an Acoustic 100W 15inch amp in my apartment that is too loud to play without getting a complaint from my neighbors. The Blackstar FLY3BASS has been super helpful with allowing me to practice without it being too loud. I have 2 bass guitars, a Dean Metalman 2a Z with active pickups and an SX Ursa 2 6 String with passive pickups. It sounds very good on my Ursa 6 String, but my Dean has some issues with feedback. I have to turn down the knobs on the bass to get a decent sound without too much distortion, and I am having some mid-range volume issues, but the lows and highs on my Dean still sound good. I have fiddled with the knobs on the Blackstar but have been unable to dial down the feedback or increase the mid-range volume on my Dean. The active pickups may just not play well with such a small driver, it only being 3inches, but all in all I am very happy with this product, especially with the battery life and 3.5mm headphone jack.

Terrible, weak, distorted sound... why does anyone like this?
I can't tell you how disappointed I am with this. Here's all the reasons it's going back immediately:-- cannot get a clean sound out of it. When Gain=0, there is no sound at all. Turning up gain at all results in distorted, fuzzy sound. The "OD" button just makes it even more fuzzy and distorted.-- volume is ridiculously low and weak. If you are trying to just have something audible without waking your roommate who's sleeping 5 feet away from you, this will work great. But then why aren't you just using headphones to begin with?-- the "EQ" control did nothing that I could detect, at all.-- same for the "COMP" controls. Frankly everything sounded compressed, all the time, no matter what I did with the controls. There was no subtlety about the sound, no nuances -- just fuzzy, flat and distorted. I've never twisted so many controls and not been able to detect any change whatsoever.-- Honestly, I was so disappointed, especially after reading so many positive reviews, I thought the batteries might be bad -- nope, used a battery tester on each AA and they were all 1.6v. I thought maybe I got a used or broken unit -- nope, I inspected the box and it had only the original packing tape, and the interior of the packing was pristine.I can see a parent buying this for their child who's just learning to play bass, and is very bad at playing bass, and you want to make SURE they are incapable of making a loud, terrible racket. In that case, this will definitely keep the volume down. That's about it.

Sounds terrible, but I mean look at it
Amazing amp due to its portability, unbeatable actually. It does the job if you have to teach a lesson or something like that.Sound-wise? well, it kinda distorts and sounds awful.

Pack it in your suitcase
Bought for this for my trip to Jamaica. I travel a lot I wanted to start bringing my Bass so I could practice more often "daily". This little giant is awesome, super light, super portable not loud but perfect for practice anywhere even poolside in Jamaica or Long Beach or Virginia Beach. Knobs and jack feel solid. Warning ⚠️ if using Batteries install them and wait 24 hours before first use. I thought mine was broken then the next morning it worked. Super fun tool
