Engaging & Informative
An engaging and thoughtful introduction to all things coastal. Current conditions and issues, as well as the history and the prospects for the future of the California coast are addressed in a personal style that is enjoyable and entertaining to read while being informative and reflective of the knowledge and backgrounds of the authors. The interweaving of details from their lives on the coast, and their life-long personal engagements in protecting and studying the coast, with the story of the coast itself makes for a book on the environment which is unique. I wholly recommend it to anyone interested in the California coast itself as a place, or in the preservation of our planet's now precarious environment(s).

A pleasurable experience to dive into and surface stimulated and refreshed.
My sincere compliments. That Edge is an amazing book. The weaving together of the past, present, and future of the California coast is absorbing and right on the mark. The personal experiences of the authors hit home and make the book really come to life . The authors have done so honestly, cleverly and eloquently. It is obvious that an incredible amount of time, energy, work, research and caring; dare I say love, went into this project. These two gentlemen, one an accomplished wild life photographer, attorney, activist, conservationist and teacher; and the other a distinguished professor, oceanographer, coastal geologist and an author in his own right, have met and exceeded their goal of educating their readers, building support for citizen action (that's us!) and hopefully influencing public policy. They have created a clear clarion call to compel us to get off our collective indifferent rear ends and pitch in what and where we can to save what is dear to us, and essential to our future. From start to finish The Edge is absorbing, fascinating and a great read!
