Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic Paint, 2-oz Tube, Quinacridone Red

My go-to white acrylic paint. Thick and opaque, easy to work with. Don't get Liquitex Basics, as it's a lower level paint, more student grade, and not as opaque. Heavy Body is it.

I can't NOT give this five stars for its quality as a paint. Opacity is good, it mixes well, very nice. But. I can't really take a star off for it but... it smells bad. It smells like manure. I got two different colors, and they both smell the same. The big competitor that rhymes with Embolden smells like plastic. If you are smell-sensitive, maybe just try one tube before committing to this brand.

I'm a professional artist & editorial cartoonist with over 50 years of experience with acrylic paint, and I use this stuff all the time when I'm working on canvas or wood panels. I use it with brushes, painting knives (don't get me started on the difference between a painting knife and a palette knife), little pieces of cut-up credit cards, and my fingers, and always get great results. Super good for impasto work. You can also thin it way down and use it like watercolor (you can't do the same tricks you do with watercolor, but it works wonderfully on paper and if you mess up a spot you can just paint over it!!). It's thick enough that you can scratch lines into it, and embed small thing in it. (Sand is fun for texture, and of course if you paint outdoors you will probably have embedded gnats). I can mix darn near any color I want with just the primary colors plus black and white, but there are lots of other fun colors. At the moment I'm playing with "Persian Red", which is really a very pretty pinky-peachy shade. Anyway, it's good stuff.

Ok I haven't used the paint yet. I'm sure it's good. I'm not happy about it coming in what amounts to a paper bag also containing a 6 lb bag of dry cat food. The cat food seems fine. The little box the paint was in was bent with the lid off the paint and an ant in the box. Since the paint still seems ok and returning is a pain, I'll keep it. Amazon, please do better. My last shipment was paint tubes and other items in too large of a box with no packing material. Honestly, that made my non-cheap shipment feel cheap.

Arrived on time! Should have had been in box instead of a bag. Because the bag had the tube of paint in a box. Well the box looked like it was old and had a rip on the end. (Pictures) When I removed the tube of paint it appeared ok. I took the lid off to check it—no seal was on it! Didn’t look as if any paint was removed. (Pictures)

I’ve been using the Liquitex Professional Heavy Body Acrylic Paint for a while now, and it’s easily one of my favorite paints for canvas work. My only minor critique is that some colors can feel slightly thicker or thinner than others, but it’s manageable with a bit of medium or water. Overall, this paint is a fantastic investment for professional and aspiring artists alike. Highly recommended!

I can only find this color in the heavy body. Love love this color, but I have to say heavy body is expensive and you use a lot because it’s so thick. that being said it is very good quality paint if you’re painting for show and not just for practice.
