Teakdecking Systems (TDS) SIS 440 Teak Deck Caulk Cartridge 10.3oz - Gray

I live and cruise on a sailboat. Caulking is a fact of life for mariners of all stripes, and there are a variety of types of caulk for different purposes. This one isn't designed as a glue; its tenacity is merely 'good' - but it WILL do all the waterproofing of joints you can imagine, very well. But from an applicator's point of view, it's nirvana. It's water-soluble. That means cleanup is a wipe-off for most stuff, and a water-wet rag/paper towel for any unwanted smears you might leave behind. It's repair-friendly. There were several cases where we had to replace a deck fitting on our toerail - the thing which goes all around the perimeter of the deck. The cured caulk will cut readily with a utility knife; I used a sloped-pointed-ended cut, kind of like < > this shape. Out comes the previous fitting. An extended snap-off blade easily removes the caulk from where the fitting sat - or removes the fitting, too, as it remains soft and pliable despite extended exposure to sun and salt water seas. In goes the new fitting, using the same level of caulking as before. With a caulk tool (a small, handled, 3-sizes-rubber-triangle-ended spreader), these replacements easily filled into those point-cuts above. A week later, you have to hunt to find them. It's our go-to caulk for anything needed to keep water out, but not need gluing to keep in place. You'll love it.

Excellent product. Not easily found in stores

We used it extensively on the gaps in the teak panels that decorate the top sides of the hull on my sailboat. It’s been several years and they still look great.

This stuff helped me give the illusion of having a teak deck. The floor in my 1968 Bertram Bahia Mar 20 is mostly fine. That said, right under the pedestal seats there was some rot. Enough to make the seats, especially the passenger seat, wobble badly in rough water. Now, I know that ripping up the entire floor and replacing the wooden core underneath is the right answer, but yeah... no. I just completed a 2 year restoration on the outside of the boat, now it's time to get out on the water. From Home Depot I got a very nice sheet of plywood. I started by cutting ⅛" deep grooves in it an inch and a half apart from one another. Then I cut the plywood to fit under my pedestal seats, caulked the pieces with this teak deck caulking, sanded them, encased them in epoxy, screwed them down to my existing desk, and mounted my pedestal seats on them. Looks like teak, but it's just plywood. The caulking worked great. Sanded right down once cured.

This is a 5 star caulking in a 1 star receptacle. I’ve just ordered my 3rd tube so I might complete my stunning project with this superior marine grade, sticky like tar, thicker than Arkansas mud, beautiful dark ebony caulking… the first two tubes puked out a small percentage of the caulking out the back (plunger) side creating a jammed caulking gun and loss of at least an ounce of the highest priced caulking I’ve ever purchased (that I’ve estimated approximately $2.59 of lost caulking per tube or the equivalent of 1/2 gallon of petrol in today’s inflated prices)… and I’ll probably purchase the same product next time hopeful that the supplier will decide to take care of their loyal passive aggressive customers by investing in a tube that’s structurally sound enough to function adequately to squeeze this extremely thick product into a tiny nozzle and out into the desired crevasse or crevice (depending upon the task at hand) without wasting a morsel out the tail.

It shrinks somewhat so a second application may be needed to fill in valley. Applying excess is needed to deal with shrinkage, but over and under doing it is all too easy. Very durable stuff, it would outlast your teak.

The product was impossible to dispense. It was practically dry and I threw it away. I will never purchase this product again. There is a local marine store, I will pay more but at least they will stand behind what they sell.
