Nevada Ghost Town Trails Paperback – June 1, 1984

I just returned from a two week vacation in Nevada stopping at several of the ghost towns and neighboring mentioned in the book such as Rhyolite, Goldfield and Tonopah. This vacation sparked my interest in other ghost towns and ordered the book. It arrived on time and met my expectations. The book showed me that there were other ghost towns (abandoned mines) a lot closer than I knew. I wish I had the book before I went on my vacation.

Just what I wanted

This publication is very informative..although it could include better descriptions of all Ghost Towns listed in it. This publication should also note if the Ghost Towns have been commercialized to pander to tourists..or remain a piece of our heritage and history, allowed to weather and fade in their own time. I have heard of Ghost Towns being 'Stabilized' or 'Restored'...stabilizing is fine if done with a gentle hand...restoring is not acceptable..taking Gold Point as an example..not only have the residents turned it into a tourist trap of sorts..they are also actually living in some of the old buildings..I witnessed window air conditioners in some of them..vehicles of the era of the town's heyday are acceptable..but there are old travel trailers with late model, stripped out vehicles sitting on axles, reminiscent of a modern day junk yard, and other assorted accumulated rubbish is strewn throughout the town..I was disappointed with Gold Point...Rhyolite on the other hand is excellent and well worth the trip.. these are but two examples of towns listed and are not indicative of all towns...the maps and mileage markings are excellent..all in all this book is worth buying if you are looking for a guide to Nevada Ghost Towns..it will help you locate and investigate the ghost towns and make your own determinations...

I love the book and using it to plan a trip to Nevada.

Overall this is a nice quick guide and reference, I only wish it had more information on history, which ghost towns are tourist aimed and which are just abandoned, etc.
