Try it out for yourself
I saw many reviews on these knives, and I have a lot of experience with products like this, but I think those reviews ma have oversold the product. It's still five stars, between design and value for money, but I managed my expectations and thus was not disappointed. The initial sharpness is good, but not exceptional. Some reviewers scrape their arms and consider that shaving. Maybe my standards are too high, but I don't consider shaving sharpness a factory requirement. On top of that, the edge holding is good for the steel used. I did some light work removing twigs from larger branches that I cleared from my property, and I found the edge just barely sways from straight when viewed in a certain light. It is extremely mild malformation and the knife is still completely functional. I took it out another time, this time to split and chop a bit, and no further edge damage occurred. the handles, however, did shift very slightly. Once again, it's not to any meaningful extent, but you can now detect the roughness of the tang in spots on the handle where it barely protrudes from the scales. This is barely visible, but much more apparent by touch. The knife hits a great price point and I am not returning it, as I quite enjoy the design. The trend of sharpened pry bars is behind us but much strength is afforded by the broad flats of a scandi ground blade. The square spine, classic profile, and medium length give me the feeling that students of Dave Canterbury would love this product. All this and I haven't mentioned the sheath. This is the feature that no review has oversold. It's excellent, and worth the price on its own. I still give this knife, ignoring the great sheath, five stars for being built to a price point the right way. Back when the Mora Bushcraft black and Garberg were released, I was quite disappointed by their thicker stock and obtuse bevels, and I'm a huge Mora proponent (2000, ProS, an 510 being my favorites). This BPS is the bigger, badder, affordable scandi you want.

The best knife for my money.
Got an awesome camp-knife while supporting our Ukraine neighbors! Built like a tank. Think heavy and overbuilt... nice. Near razor sharp, out of the box. Not a finely polished finish; it is a camp knife, after all. I think the knife and scabbard/sheath should last 3 lifetimes. Very great value. NOT chineeze... hurray!

Outstanding blade!!!!
I have been truly impressed by the quality and craftmanship that are in the BPS knives. Most of the5which can be said about the "5" has been said, so I won't be going into too much detail. They are reliable, steady and made of quality steel and wood. The money they want for them is MORE than fair, and the sheathes are made of quality leather. I will say that while they are quality woodcraft knives, but i like a little more heft when it to bushcraft knives. But there is no question that these knives are more than capable of handling any task set before it. , BUY ONE or 5 these knives are OUTSTANDING!!!! Took it out into the woods and used it for a couple of days. It was very comfortable and was perfect for all of the tasks it was called upon to complete. The blade is very sharp and is tough. The handle is great for fit, and due to the finger slots it is adaptable to different needs. I used it for splitting wood and for processing food-breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Made a tripod for the fire, no problem, and cut up meat and vegetables fast and accurate. Buy one of these knives for your gear, it is well worth the money. I do wish that BPS would make 6" knives. The extra inch of so would make a difference in a few tasks.

Great knife but came with fair bit of surface rust
*Upgraded to 4/5, from 3.5/5, after a fair bit of consideration and after using it for a bit.* Had a camping trip, and wanted to get a new knife, last minute. Scoured Amazon for something that would fit my tastes, and the BPS Knives HK5 and Adventurer both came up as the clear winner. I decided that I'd buy both, as one would arrive a day sooner than the other, and I wasn't 100% sure when I'd leave. The HK5 and the Adventurer are both pretty solid knives. The HK5 is probably one of the best in-hand feeling knives I've ever had the pleasure of holding. The wooden scales are quite nice - they could use a bit of oiling, as they seem a bit dry, but they're comfortable and reasonably smooth. Not being coated in lacquer is actually appreciated as it gives them a bit more grip. That said, they're good, but could be better. Probably a 4 - 4.5/5. The edge is great, came out of the box extremely sharp. I like the wood color of the Adventurer over the HK5, but the HK5 feels much better in-hand by comparison. The sheaths are both real leather. The HK5's sheath came in black and the Adventurer came in brown with a wood-handle Ferro rod and loop to carry it with the sheath - and honestly, the Ferro rod, while certainly not large, is actually quite competent, the handle on it solid, and the loop a much appreciated addition. Absolutely adds to the value of the knife. The knives are both actually quite good, and I probably would have rated them 5's, if not for the one downside... ...both knives came to me, right out of the box, with quite bit of surface rust. It's certainly not a surprise to see such a knife with some rust, being that they're Carbon Steel knives, but it doesn't help that both were in the box, inside the leather sheath, and then wrapped in Plastic Wrap - like you'd cover leftovers with. There was simply too much moisture either in the leather, or the plastic wrap was simply insufficient to protect from moisture and the sheath locked it in. We are currently in our, albeit very short, wet season and so we've had a few humid days as of late... but I'm inclined towards this not being the result of sitting in an Amazon Warehouse in the desert, a few miles from me, but from the shipping process from Ukraine (where these are made) and insufficient packaging. Of the two, the Adventurer came with less rust as it appears to have been a bit better oiled from the factory, as the tip of the blade was clearly more in contact with the sheath, and in turn, moisture. Honestly... I genuinely, really want to recommend these knives to people. I want to buy them for family members - they're inexpensive and quality enough that it wouldn't really hurt the bank, so to speak. They're solid knives with a great price point and I would love to give them a 5 star review, but when it comes out of the box with a good bit of rust, and an equal amount of pitting after spraying it down with WD40, I just can't. I'm honestly just gutted because it's such a good product if not for a little more attention paid to the shipping process. I'd honestly have been find paying another 1 to 5 dollars, each, just so that they're properly packaged, air tight, and separate from the sheath. Even tossing a desiccant in with the knife would probably have helped.

Blade poetry in your hands.
Just another outstanding specimen from BPSKNIVES. The HK5 is a cross between a combat knife and a outdoors knife. The wood handles were cut perfectly to align with the 1066 high carbon steel full tang blade. I have large hands and it feels like the grip was made custom for them. The steel is a good thickness and weight, the scandi grind was done perfectly even and wickedly sharp. As always the leather sheath is premium and should hold of for a generation or two at least. For the price you will never beat this thing. It doesn't claim to be anything it is not, rather it excels at everything it claims to be.

Solid. A lot of knife for the money. Very nice sheath, too.
I wear a men's large glove and the grip feels great in my hand. The blade is clearly sturdy and the design is no-nonsense. Unlike Mora knives in this price range, the sharp-edged spine will throw a good shower of sparks from a ferro rod. The sheath is exceptionally well crafted. The value here seems exceptional. I would and probably will buy another BPS knife. Mine arrived with dry-looking scales, which was fine with me - - a few drops of boiled linseed oil brought them to life. Would feel confident having this as my survival knife.

High-value knife and sheath for backwoods and camping. Made in Ukraine.
I'm pleased with this item, especially considering the price for the quality of the knife and sheath. The blade is very sharp and sturdy, full tang as well. The scandi grind makes it great for cutting and splitting wood for making fires and shelter. It should be good for camping, bushcraft and hunting, but not the best for food prep or fishing. The blade is carbon steel but needs care (and oil) for wet or damp environments. Do NOT store the knife in the leather sheath if you don't want rust. For storage, use included cardboard sheath protector and oil the knife with something non-toxic and tasteless, like mineral oil. Soften up the thick and stiff sheath with a light coat of neatsfoot oil. The dangler strap on the sheath will make it easier to move around (and sit) with the somewhat long 5-inch blade. The primary scandi bevel is about 11 degrees (22 inclusive), and I sharpened it at an 18 degree angle for a "micro-bevel" to make the edge stronger and more durable. The knife has a nice lanyard hole for attaching paracord to increase visibility and grip security. The walnut scales were slightly mis-aligned, but that was easily remedied by loosening the 2.5 mm hex bolts, aligning scales and re-tightening.

I love this knife!
Great weight and balance, came sharpened properly and it works well for bushcraft or whittling. I'll order more for the kids or as gifts for friends, and I love that it's made in Ukraine! The sheath is simple but excellent quality, and this thing is a great value for the price. Great usable blade that would work well for hunting or camping.
