Wow! Just, WOW!
Backstory: Husband and I decided it was time to get a new TV that could output a better resolution and give me an overall more enjoyable gaming experience for a top of the line computer he bought me for a previous birthday. We checked different "Monitors" or TV's for different specs and resolution capabilities. We were EXTREMELY surprised to find a TV that could give off an amazing resolution (4K) that had multiple settings, wifi connections, 5 HDMI ports, and more, for being priced relatively cheap when compared to other similarly spec'd products. Unboxing/Delivery: We do have amazon prime, and we do get prime shipping, so we expected it to get to out house within 2-3 days. We were pleasantly surprised to find the TV on our porch the very next night while taking out the trash, Amazon hadn't even texted me that it was delivered yet! I expected the TV to be extremely heavy (the samsung 40 inch TV we have in the living room was extremely heavy), and was really happy to find that the TV, box and all, weighed just a couple of pounds and could easily be lifted with one hand! (I have no upper body strength, so this is a wonderful thing for me!) Unpacking the TV was a little awkward because of the way it's positioned within the box, and the bag of screws/stand stuff wasn't taped to the TV like every other TV we've ordered before, so that was slightly obnoxious, because we had dropped it on our floor and our dog ran off with it, the silly Saint Bernard! ;) The two stands popped right into the bottom of the TV with ease, and the screws and- after finding a flathead screwdriver because we apparently lost our phillips- were easily screwed on to make the stand secure. Usage: I immediately sat down to begin using the "monitor" for our computer gaming session that we had planned for the evening together, only to be extremely disappointed with the twitchiness/screen tearing and genuine lag with the movement of the mouse and the game itself. After realizing it wasn't my computer and checking the settings of the TV via the beautiful remote that the television came with, we found out that running a 4k resolution gave the TV a refresh rate of 30HZ instead of the 60HZ that we expected. My biggest complaint about this television is that we had to google it (mostly because I was pigheaded and did not want to return such a pretty television) to find out that only the HDMI 5 slot, is able to output a 60HZ refresh rate for the 4k resolution. If you want to have multiple gaming consoles, computers, or other hardware connected to this TV, then you will need to pick just one to have a decent refresh rate. Quick TL;DR Review: For us-- because I only use it as a computer monitor, this was an amazing price, for an amazing product. I would recommend this as a main television for any family, or as a wonderful computer monitor for the holidays. Extremely happy with Vizio, Amazon, and everything surrounding this product. #PleasantlySurprised

WOW WEE WOW WOW
Where do I begin? I thought my previous 40" Samsung was UHD. It was labeled as UHD 4K, made back in 2013. Only some time later did I find out to get actual 4K UHD I would need to buy the Samsung add-on Evolution kit to update my inputs to the latest 4K standards. That samsung kit costs $400. That was my previous 2013 Samsung POS. So, then lately I came across this wonderful Vizio UHD TV for only pennies more than Samsung wanted for their "add-on kit". And not only was this Vizio easy to hook up, and I could use the same wall mount because this too was a 40" TV, but the sound with this Vizio is leaps and bounds over my previous Samsung. I can stop using the sound-bar and rely only on the Vizio built-in speakers. This Vizio UHD picture looks fantastic. I just bought from a TV shopping channel the Amazon Fire TV with 4K. Well, this Vizio TV has the Amazon app included and also the Amazon UHD 4K movies, so I can return my Amazon Fire TV to the shopping network. Save some $$$. So far my experience is all win win win with this Vizio, Great picture, great sound, nice apps, all in a 40" screen. Just what I wanted. I only wish this was 3D as well. I once had a Vizio 3D TV when 3D came out, and 3D on that first Vizio looked great. But I guess 3D is old school these days, especially with home TV. I know one thing, no more Samsung for me.

VIZIO Quality Control Failure...
Pros: - Great overall screen quality - great contrast ratio and colors - Great price/bang for the buck for an entry level 4K TV - Upscale conversion from 1080P to UHD looks fantastic - 120Hz upscale refresh rate works well with minimal 'soap opera' affect - Built-in apps menu is easy to navigate and can be customized - Coaxial input (most of the newer 4K TVs no longer have a coaxial input - HDMI 2.0 input port is clearly marked as 4K @ 60Hz; easy to identify without having to reference the owner's manual - Built-in speakers are decent, but you will want to use an independent true surround sound receive & speaker system - No external AC power brick - No external input interface brick Cons: - First unit died after only 3 days of use, second unit was dead out of the box...most likely a defective circuit board is causing the issue - Thick display and does not have a thin design solution like more expensive 40-inch Samsung models, but then this is a budget model - No menu function available to manually update the firmware -- how is the firmware supposed to be updated?? - Remote control layout is a bit quirky and is non-intuitive; also there is no A mazon Prime Video quick launch button (there is a Netflix quick launch button) - No apparent capability to play A mazon Prime UHD movies -- only able to play Netflix UHD videos (might be fixed with a future firmware update?) - Has only one HDMI 2.0 port (60Hz @ 4K); all other ports are rated for only 30Hz @ 4K - Out of the box "Standard" picture color setting is terrible - make sure to switch to the "Vivid" or "Calibrated" mode and make adjustments as needed for your own desired preference Other Thoughts: The VIZIO D40U-D1 TV is a great bargain for those looking for an entry level 4K TV. At only 40 inches, this particular model is more ideal for those looking for 4K TV for the bedroom and/or as a gaming console (XBOX One/PS4) platform display gaming solution, or secondary PC gaming display solution (though I wouldn't recommend it for 'fast twitch' first person shooter games). Unfortunately, what would have been a great product, ended up in disappointment when my unit died after only 3 days of ownership. I filed an RMA through Newegg for my first defective unit and now am having to file a second RMA through Amazon. The unit I received from Amazon was DOA and never worked at all, whereas the Newegg TV at least worked for a few days before dying. I will point out that this appears to NOT be an isolated incident. Two different sellers and different lot numbers, so not looking good for Vizio and they may have a bad batch of TV units here. For now, I can only offer a very cautious approach if you are considering buying this TV. This is a great TV for an entry level 40-inch 4K TV, but will caution potential owners as to the probability of receiving a defective unit. I definitely highly recommend that you buy some type of additional insurance coverage, whether it be New Egg's in house plan, or 3rd part provider (i.e. SquareTrade, etc). Peace of mind is worth it's weight in gold ;-)

High fail rates it seems. My TV came and it seemed to work fine unless put into 4k 60 Hz or 1080p 120 Hz. Where it would continually disconnect and reconnect to the source causing the screen to flash black for 1-2 seconds. This got worse as the TV heated up, causing it eventually to not work in either of the aforementioned resolution / refresh rate combos. This seems scary to me cause if you get this planning on using the more advanced features later on you might not even know they are broken until you try them. I returned and got a the same model at Target without the problem....... Pretty good TV to use as a monitor besides that. Motion blur isn't bad for the price and 1080p 120 Hz is nice.

Really nice picture!
I decided to purchase a new TV for another room in the house and decided to try out the 4K resolution since the price for a 40 inch was reasonable on the Vizio. It works just like the description. It was simple to hook up to satellite and the picture quality is quite good for the price. It up-scales the 1080 to 4k and has a very sharp picture. It is almost too sharp and bright when you are not used to it but once you watch for a little bit it then makes other pictures seem lacking. I do like the ease of hooking up to wifi and it gets a good signal from the router and you can stream Amazon TV as well as listen to music or use many other apps. It does seem to blur when there is fast motion but most of the time it is better than I had thought it would be. I have only used it for a few weeks but so far it seems to be a good television.

the best bang for your buck that you'll get on a ...
This is, HANDS DOWN, the best bang for your buck that you'll get on a 4K HDTV with 2016 technology. The processing power included is quick, without any lag and delay between menus and the picture quality is beautiful and bright with the Dynamic pre-settings. I almost want to close my eyes as if the sun is glaring at me with the brightness, colors pop elegantly and black seems pitch dark. This is one of the best picture quality displays I've seen so far and I'm extremely happy with the purchase choice in comparison to other options. If I had to choose, my only complaint might be that the sound quality isn't anything impressive, but I'd be crazy to think a TV with this price tag would include both top notch sound and picture display features. Overall, it's still plenty of sound to hear things clearly, so I wouldn't let that deter anyone from purchasing this TV. This is a 5/5 star purchase and I'd strongly recommend this TV to anyone who's on a budget, but wants the latest and greatest out of TV technologies.

Worked great. For about 6 months.
Great price for a tv with such amazing picture. I've had one other Vizio tv before this one and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the picture on it. This one is no different. The built in apps load quickly, the remote is great. Update: After having this TV for 6 months the HDMI port for the 60hz 4K input stopped working. Also the TV loses its WiFi settings constantly and has to be set up again about once a month. I would definitely go for another brand of higher quality. Reduced my rating to two stars. This is a spate tv for the bedroom. No longer watch anything in 4K on it.

Unbelievable visual experience and so easy to get up and running.
There have been two times in my 70, years when I have been extremely impressed with visual technology. Once when high definition and good TVs came out - that was a wow moment. TWO days ago the delivery and set up of this 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV - if I may be pardoned for the language - my first and continuing impression is not just fabulous eye candy - but orgasmic, unbelievable incredible EXTREME HIGH DEFINITION.....other than adjusting text size and upscaling websites by 250%, (and that is easy to do) I feel like I own my own Imax quality visual experience. OMG was my first impression and continues to be every time I turn my computer on. Set up was easy and when I got stuck, I called tech support - they were extremely helpful and held my hand literally for about 10 minutes while I tweaked things. The single greatest ever retirment present I could ever experience.

Try it if you are feeling lucky.
Heard a lot of good things about this TV so went for it. Had a terrible experience :( The first TV which came would freeze up after 20-30 mins of running and then shut down. Restarting it again would work till it freezes again after some time. Had it replaced. The replacement TV didn't have the freezing issue but its WiFi wasn't working !!! On further check - the USB port and HDMI 4 port was also not working. Had it replaced. The 3rd replacement TV landed with a CRACKED screen. That it - I had enough. I am done with trying my luck with this TV. While I did use the TV briefly - The good: WiFi is 802.11ac & it has 5 HDMI inputs!! The bad: The Remote is cheap and plastiky, The smart TV interface is just sad and frustratingly slow, The sound quality is poor. If you are looking for a cheap 4K TV and get lucky with a good piece - it should be a good deal..

Replaced an aging monitor
Purchased this because I have a massive desk for my setup and didn't want to to spend 1500$ on an ultrawide monitor. 60hz only in 1080p and 4k. NOT IN 1440 just to be clear. Imput lag is almost non existent when compared to any tv on the market. 13.1ms to be exact. I'm not mlg, so I dont care, and 60hz is plenty. Wildlands maxed out and upscaled from 1080p is face melting. Waiting g on that 1080ti to pump 4k. Anyways this TV is the best bang for the buck. Bit of tweaking the picture settings and voila. Amazing

Great value for money.
Great value for the price. I have a few minor gripes - backlight is not consistently bright and there are manufacturing defects in the bezel. Makes an excellent computer monitor! Photoshop and Visual Studio have never looked better.

Doesn't handle motion well
TV works well with up scaling 720p and 1080p content and 4k images look terrific. However, if you play any video games I would stay away, TV has a hard time handling motion. In fast paced games you see a ghost image and is very hard on the eyes.
