Pricey but worth it; works.
This mat works well to limit tracking and it is also a nice, tidy size if the litter box is in a corner, closet or tight space. Litter tracking is the bane of every cat owner. Matters not the type of litter, we've tried them all (and prefer Dr. Elseys, as do our cats). It is a fact of cat ownership that some litter will simply nestle between a toe or two and track onto the surrounding couple feet of surface, tile, wood or carpet. We took in a lil' family of orphaned 5-week old kittens that are now robust 5-year-old sweeties. None of them have any behavior issues, including litter quirks that some cats just will sometimes have. Nonetheless, as long time cat owners spanning decades, we've spent some time searching for the Holy Grail of floor protectors for our two litter boxes, one on each floor of the house. This one is small and pricey but worth it, trapping about 90% of the litter. We do have one strong-minded calico who occasionally likes to dig to China to cover her waste, once in a blue moon getting carried away with the kind of single-mindedness purpose calicos are known for. This results in what I swear is her picking up a cupful and tossing it just outside the box at the front of the covered litter box. It obviously floats her boat and at 5, she isn't going to stop doing that one or twice a month. This LitterTrap stops her landscape redevelopment cold in its tracks. Pun intended. We just pick up the mat, hold the open end over the box before we scoop that day and dump it all back into the box, quick 'n' easy.

Defective? Smaller than advertised, NOT 30X20 INCHES....
IT DOES NOT MEASURE 30X20IN, IT IS 28X18 INCHES!!!!I was waiting to write this review until after I received a reply from LitterTrap. I emailed the company from their website about the mat only measuring 28x18in but never got a reply... So aside from it measuring a full 2 inches shorter in length and width it seems to have cut down the litter tracking from my Cat Genie by half. There is some loose litter outside of edges of the mat, which probably could be caught if it was actually 30x20in, not sure if the cat is jumping over the mat but tracking like I said appears to be less than before. We only have one cat but anyone that has a Cat Genie will understand the problem with litter tracking all over the house. In terms of build quality the material is very sturdy and put together well. The reason I rated this product 3 stars is because it is really expensive @ $50 and IT DOES NOT MEASURE the correct size, very misleading. Also the manufacture did not respond to my email. But it appears to work well and is built very well.

It's official: Litter mats don't work (mostly)
Our cheap generic litter mat wasn't getting the job done well enough, so when we upgraded our litter box we decided to upgrade the mat too. I came across the LitterTrap EZ Clean here on Amazon based on reviews and decided to go for it despite the high price tag, figuring (hoping) maybe this would be a case of getting what you pay for. For frame of reference, we have a single female cat who is naturally very tidy. Our new litter box is enclosed/hooded with a door flap preventing most litter kick out. We keep it in a closet with the door only propped open enough to allow straight entry/exit, so there are no angled exits to be worried about. So based on these factors I'd say we have had the opportunity to test out this litter mat in nearly optimal conditions. The results: Litter still finds its way on to the floor in front of the mat. It's nearly equal to the amount that would escape the cheapest of cheap litter mats, maybe only slightly less. Not worth-$30-more less.I don't think LitterTrap is really to blame. There's obviously a market for litter mats (for suckers like me who buy into the appealing idea) and the concept of this design isn't bad at all. The EZ Clean is (true to its name) easier to clean than a normal litter mat--this one you only have to loosely shake empty every once in awhile and you're good to go, or you could spray it clean in a large sink or with an outdoor hose. The materials seem to be pretty solid and it looks nice. Its only flaw is ironically the only thing it's taught me; that litter mats, in general, mostly don't work as well as you'd like or expect them to, whether they're $5 or $35. Either way you're still going to be sweeping up the traces your cat(s) tracks out. My suggestion: Unless you just really want to pay a premium for the perks of durability, ease of cleaning, and the slightly better looks of the LitterTrap mat, you may as well go with something cheaper that's only minimally less effective. The reason I'm still giving this product four stars is that it's still pretty good for what it is. It's at least as effective as any other litter mat we've ever tried, but more durably made, easier to clean, and a little better looking. It's not a bad product, it's just disappointing to learn that no litter mat actually traps much litter, even if you go for the high end option. If the price was a little cheaper I'd give it five stars, but it just doesn't quite seem worth the premium cost.
