Recommended for HomeKit
Bought 2, both arrived in good condition although strangely in different manufacturing origin boxes, although in operation identical. Connected to HomeKit and both work flawlessly. They are connected to a mesh network and each to different access points. Have not had a single drop in 5 months of use. Only 1 speed of operation. But this was known from the specs. Connected to AC only, roof HVAC system. Works well, and plenty of customisation options through the web portal. HomeKit app is basic but functional. Recommended.

Excellent thermostat
Opted for the ecobee instead of the nest and I couldn’t be happier. It brings much more flexibility and manual options.

Touch sensor is terrible
Touch sensor is terrible, suffering to adjust temperature and set up settings. Other then that works fine with great connection of HomeKit.

The most complicated thermostat
The thermostat has taken the simple task of turning on and off your ac to an extremely over complicated process. The thermostat requires you save a schedule to what temperature you want your AC to be on. If you live in a hot country you know that when you are not home you don’t need it to be on but with this, it’s always cooling and the entire system is so dumb you can’t even just leave the cooling on (not the auto setting where the fan turns off) without messing your entire automation system

The opposite of comfort
Though it does integrate with homekit, the controls via the apple ecosystem are very inconsistent. Sometimes it works sometimes my place is boiling when it should be chilling. Additionally sometimes it just decides to not turn off even though the app and the physical device says it's off... Woken up freezing to death with the only solution being yanking the device off the wall.

After researching and reading many reviews about this thermostat, decided to purchase from US Amazon. Surprising it worked very well in Australia. We had a very old analog thermostat (using mercury and springs) which replaced it with this Ecobee3 Lite. It made our air-conditioning system new and smart. The Apple HomeKit integration is much better than I expected. It has temperature sensor and humidity sensor. The smart schedule feature is very advanced and learning the current temperature to adjust the setting automatically. The Ecobee app is great and it receives regular updates. Love the bee flying animation on the screen at the beginning of the setup. Maybe it is a bug, but during the setup, when choosing Celsius as the display unit, it still uses Fahrenheit during one of the following steps: setting the comfort temperatures. After that, everything is Celsius.

I have never installed something like a thermostat before. I have let this product sit in my cart for the last couple of months while I debated on if I was qualified enough for the daunting task of install. I wish I would’ve just purchased this a LONG time ago. And here is why…. THE APP NOT ONLY TELLS YOU WHAT TO DO STEP BY STEP BUT IS INTERACTIVE!! I have NEVER had a product with such a user friendly (such an under rated term here) interface that tells you what to do BASED ON YOUR WIRING!! That’s right. You remove your old thermostat and tell the app which wires you see and it tells you what you need to do based on your specific situation. I will say I was very lucky and had the common wire and did NOT have to install the adaptor to my HVAC system. However, honestly the apps Instillation guide is so intuitive I’m sure that the extra step would have been easy enough. I know it may seem like I am rambling a bit. In this part of the review however, I want everyone to understand that the biggest reason for my hesitation was not the price of the unit but the installation process. I did not want to have to pay an additional fee for someone else to install. If I could possibly do it myself once I receive the product I had it installed within 15 minutes. The Ecobee Smart Thermostat is in itself, a wonderful and intuitive product. The product itself looks very elegant and doesn’t look like your typical hospitals style look. This looks futuristic and modern. I absolutely love how intuitive the sensor is like when you walk by the screen changing to show you a little bit more information. The software seems to know how to show you the right information to. When I want to look at the weather, it gives me just a glance at what is going on outside, which is wonderful and then I can expand it more to look into the future if I choose. The ecobee app is very user-friendly and easy to use as well. Setting up my thermostat through the ecobee app was super easy and quick. PRO TIP: Once the thermostat is installed, you can access the Apple QR code to connect your thermostat to your HomeKit ecosystem. The QR code is not the QR codes on the actual product cards inside the box. I really love the fact that this thermostat helps save on your heating bill by maximizing the heating and cooling of your HVAC system. But I was really impressed when during the install process, the software prompted me to enter my ZIP Code to show me who my local energy supplier was and allowed me to Request a rate decrease with the new install of the smart thermostat. I have not purchased any of the sensors yet, so I cannot contest to that ability of the software. However, I will be purchasing them in the future and will update my review accordingly.

As with everybody else, I researched which wfi thermostat will be fitting in our 3-zone two wire (white-W, red-R) Boiler Heating system (older home). There were very good reviews on the different products. We use Alexa at home and I was drawn to Ecobee3 Lite thermostats. Additionally, we appreciate the use of sensors. Youtube, Amazon reviews and Ecobee support provided me an easier way to provide constant power supply on these thermostats. I bought an Elk 24VAC 40 VA transformer to power my 3 Ecobee3 Lite thermostats via connection to C (common wire) and Rc. The old Boiler wires are connected via white wire to W and red wire to Rh. I followed all advises/requirements that power has to be turned off to the HVAC system when you plan to do work on your thermostats. I spent a few hours re-wiring our 3 zone system through the walls and our crawl space using a thermostat wire 18/5; then, installed the 3 Ecobee3 Lite thermostats. The result was very good. Once I turned on power to the HVAC and plugged in the 24VAC transformer, everything worked properly. The Ecobee3 Lite thermostats exceeded my expectations from installation, connections, ease of use, voice commands using Alexa, web portal use and android phone use; it works like a charm. I like the setting up of schedules, assigning different temperatures (i.e. home/away/sleep), screen on/off, etc. Fall and Winter is coming and I want to see how savings works. We have several sensors as well to check the different areas of a particular room/s. This is so much modern as compared to our older thermostats. I'm glad that I chose this product. As a caution, if you plan on doing this project and you are not familiar with your electrical systems, HVAC system, recommend that you hire a professional. I am no professional but just enjoy doing small projects at home. Lastly, check with your electric and gas providers for rebates when buying this product.
