It is true that our world of work has experienced a dramatic shift over the years, a move from the very linear ‘staircase’ career of our parents and past generations, to a modern ‘squiggly’ one- unpredictable, fluid not fixed and ever-fluctuating. Can you relate to this? The story of this book and I began when I started questioning my own squiggly career during my maternity leave and how I felt an embracing of it might support my newfound values and personal goal for life-long learning 🤓 This book couldn’t have been read at a better time for me or for any other person facing a career conundrum. The Squiggly Career is a practical handbook filled with tools, research, actionable tips and a healthy mix of examples drawn from the author’s experiences. Focusing on five core skills that the authors have identified, the book helps you to firstly embrace then scale your squiggle by considering your: 💬 Super strengths 💬 Values 💬 Confidence 💬 Networks 💬 and Future Possibilities. Throughout the book you are encouraged to take active ownership, not only through the completing of the many exercises it provides but by changing your mindset to a 'growth mindset'. That being said, this isn’t a light read by the beach. For me, you’d need a writing surface, a couple of highlighters and a sharpened pencil. What I enjoyed most was the super useful chapter summaries as well as the suggestions that go beyond the page such as vision boards and personal manifestos. It might sound extensive but this book deserves this labour. Question is, are you ready to invest the time, energy and effort into your career future now? I recommend this book to everyone I know!

Love this book. Like many books it’s something we know and should do. But the authors lay it out clean and give you a plan. You think squiggly is bad. This book helps you see the path is the path. Don’t overthink it. Worth the purchase. But I ended up buying it somewhere else because my order was never delivered. Beware.
