Land O Lakes, Cocoa Mix Classic Chocolate Supreme, 1.25-Ounce (12 Pack)

This review applies to the Chocolate Supreme flavor (while the image shows Mocha flavor, this listing is for Chocolate Supreme.) I am an occasional hot cocoa drinker when I want to mix it up from tea or coffee, and its something I like to give to people on the holidays. However, I've never really gotten into drinking it a lot and part of that reason was I thought good cocoa was prohibitively expensive. I've purchased quite a few different brands, some of which were quite expensive and, while I am far from being an expert on hot cocoa, I just wasn't all that impressed. I purchased Land O Lakes' Chocolate Supreme after reading all the positive reviews (it is one of the best and possibly the best-rated cocoa product on Amazon as of now) and reading that it won in a few blind taste tests. Despite it having overwhelmingly positive reviews, it is surprisingly affordable. I honestly never gave Land O Lakes cocoa much thought. It's very inexpensive, it's not made by a specialty chocolate company, the packaging is pretty plain...how could it even begin compare to all of these specialty chocolate companies who make premium cocoa? Well, I am here to say it actually compares really well. In fact, it's the best cocoa I have ever had. I've had some other brands which I would say I like equally as much, but not any more than the LOL Chocolate Supreme, and the Chocolate Supreme is literally less than 1/5th the price. It's good stuff and the Chocolate Supreme is that pure, intense, and sweet chocolate taste I really like. Making it is a simple process. You do not need milk...all you need is hot water, a cup, and a spoon. Mix hot water with the powder, stir, and you are good to go. It rapidly dissolves and you do not get any gritty textures. In terms of how much water to use, LOL advises 6 ounces of water but you may find you like a little less for a thicker/stronger cocoa, or a little lighter for a thinner/less intense flavor. So this year the cocoa stocking stuffer is Land O Lakes Chocolate Supreme. And this year I am going to start drinking more cocoa given I never knew cocoa of this quality could be so affordable. So if you are looking for a cocoa product and your core criteria is a product that tastes good and pleases just about everyone, give LOL's Chocolate Supreme a go. It can hold its own with other hot cocoa products costing significantly more. (If Land O Lakes happens to follow their product reviews on Amazon, it would be really cool if you offered some sort of holiday edition or metal tin or something like that!)

Container was a little worse for wear, but product is awesome!

It became really difficult to find this product in my grocery store, so of course I checked my favorite shop - Amazon! I bought a pack of 12 at a price much much better that I used to pay at the grocery. This is the best Hot Chocolate I've every tasted and I'm so glad to have a supply at home now. There are many flavors to choose from, but my favorite is Chocolate Supreme. And I received my order in one day!

I love chocolate, but there are few instant hot cocoa mixes that are truly good anymore. I fell in love with Land O Lakes cocoa mix years ago, when I found out that was what our local coffee shop used to make their mochas. Their raspberry mochas were to die for. They also sold the packets individually and I was hooked. Their is no other instant hot cocoa that is so creamy I don't even have to add milk or cream. It's that good right out of the packet with just hot water. Since the coffee shop is no more, I have always been hard pressed to find Land O Lakes in any of my local stores. Safeway would carry it sometimes at Christmas in individual packets, but I haven't seen it lately. So when I found the best hot cocoa in a packet once again, I ordered my supply from Amazon. Boy am I glad I did. I bought the last three 12 packs they had the other day and stocked up. Hopefully they will be getting some more in soon, so that I, along with all of the other Land O Lakes lovers, will be able to keep up their supply for winter.

I'm writing this review primarily to address the question of branding: if you liked the Land O' Lakes hot cocoa packages (as I did), this is the product you want. The little packs I received nowhere said "Land O' Lakes," so I did some checking. Land O' Lakes never did produce the cocoa. It had had a licensing arrangement with the cocoa manufacturer, and with the end of that arrangement, the Land O' Lakes packaging and label disappeared. The product is the same, though, and the Cocoa Supreme tastes as good as it ever did.
