Not even close to chilli bean sauce
Very strong garlic and too sweet

Tastes slightly bitter
I have tried this twice already, and my opinion of it remains the same. It tastes slightly bitter and then the sweetness throws off the flavour completely. I tried it on it's own, mixed with hummus, noodles, rice, and used in other recipes, but it only seems to make the taste of everything ever so slightly worse. I absolutely love the chilli oil from Lee Kum Kee but this one's not for me.

I'd go with this brand from now on.
I usually went with the brand that has the little panda on it (not mentioning names), but this one was actually pretty good. Not as salty as I generally expect these Doubanjiang sauces to be, and that's a good thing for me - lets me control the salt myself.

Quite good
This is pretty good! It's a bit sour, mildly spicy, and very flavourful. It's really added a certain something that's taken my attempts at Sichuan food to the next level! The heat level is negligible for an Indian palate, but that can always be raised with chillies anyway. I've never had the authentic stuff in China so can't comment on that, but I will say that this is tasty in its own right.
