What are the exact ingredients as labelled?

Hi there! We're happy to help. All of the ingredients in this product are listed as follows: FUNCTIONAL INGREDIENTS: Xylitol (25%), Papain (whitening).INGREDIENTS: water, xylitol (25%), hydrated silica, glycerin, sorbitol, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, sodium coco-sulfate, carrageenan (Chondrus crispus), tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) leaf oil, peppermint (Mentha piperita) oil, spearmint (Mentha viridis) oil, papain, potassium sorbate. We hope this helps!

does this product have carrageenan in it

Yes it does and that concerned me. I am convinced though, that the small amount used and the fact that very little gets swallowed is outweighed by the benefits of this fine toothpaste. I use it exclusively. http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/QAA401181/Is-Carrageenan-Safe.html

Is this certified cruelty free?

Yes, NOW® Solutions is proud to announce the addition of the PETA cruelty-free certification, Beauty without Bunnies, to all of our topical skincare and aromatherapy products.

Why is there carageenan in this? what purpose does it serve??

Carrageenan is a seaweed extract that helps as a preservative to keep the products texture, emulsified and stabilized. This particular type of seaweed is common in the Atlantic Ocean near Britain, Continental Europe and North America. You boil the seaweed to extract the carrageenan. In that sense, carrageenan is completely "natural" -- it's not much different from tomato paste in its creation.
