How do you guys know that this is lead free?

Leaded crystal must disclose that it contains lead.  This is not marked as containing lead, and Royal Doulton confirms that it is lead free, which makes it safe for storing and drinking alcohol.  The decanter has a thick, solid base for stability, and has the weight and clarity expected of quality crystal.

NEW INFO: The box does not say crystal nor lead-free.  I called Royal Doulton's North American service center and the woman told me that if the website says "crystalline," then it is lead-free.  So, this is lead-free according to Royal Doulton.  My old answer is intact below.OLD ANSWER--------------------------------------------------I will say that after sleuthing, I am uncertain.  On the Royal Doulton website (http://na.wwrd.com/ae/us/mode/royal-doulton-mode-seasons-decanter-set/invt/652383729162/), the "Details & Dimensions" tab says the material is "crystalline."  From http://www.liveroyaldoulton.com/crystal/, both "finsbury" and "islington" are listed as lead-free explicitly, and the associated products are listed on the main page as "crystalline," just like this set.  "Retro" products as well as "highclere" items are listed as "crystal" not crystalline (highclere is explicitly listed as 24% lead crystal on http://www.liveroyaldoulton.com/crystal/).As it turns out, this is a matter of regulation in the EU (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead_glass).  Anything below 24% lead oxide MUST be labelled "crystalline," which means it could contain less than 24% lead oxide.  Therefore, using just the Royal Doulton website, I can't find a definitive answer.  Amazon has this listed as lead-free, but Amazon listings are notoriously incorrect when it comes to details.  Sadly, a person posting at http://scotchaddict.com/why-do-you-put-scotch-in-a-decanter.html in January 2013 says that the Royal Doulton website lists the set as "crafted of lead crystal."  That's a bad sign.Many sites in the UK are listing this as 24% lead crystal (which I find completely unlikely), so there's a lot of misinformation out there.  Since I've been motivated to find this answer, I will try contacting Royal Doulton about this to find the definitive answer.
