I have a 37.5" x 25.5" x 3" mattress. could i use it in this bed? also would my son be able to get out? he is 2yo and 35".

We recommend to use full-size mattress, 51-5/8" (L) x 27-1/4" (W) and between 4" & 5-1/2" of thickness. Yes, kids 2 years old should be able to get out of it.

Are the inside of the sides smooth? Pictures look like there’s a raised part with 2 screws in the middle, and I don’t want my baby to get bumped.

The two sides have a piece of wood to connect them (two screws on top and two screws on bottom). The wood is about 2x8x1/4 inches. it only sticks out about 1/4 inch. Our grandson has not problem with the bed and loves his "sleep overs"...
