Yes, it can be used while it is raining. No you do not need a separate cover. Easy to install. Great product. Get two tubes of Dicor self leveling sealant, and a role of butyl tape for a proper install.

Is this the entire fan or just the fan lid? the description says fan lid, not fan. thanks.

If you look at the more information you will realise exactly what you are buying.the lid is smoked and not white. You should buy one because they are great I have two one of the best bits of kit I have ever bought.👍👍👍. Very easy to fit make sure that you get the remote model..

Do these units come with the newer controller?

What do you mean by "newer controller"? The one it comes with looks like the one in this picture. Only bad thing about it is there is no back light on the screen so cant see anything in the dark.
