A&A 15" Wooden Chess Set/Folding Board / 3" King Height German Knight Staunton Chess Pieces w/Maple & Walnut Inlay / 2 Extra Queens

Although this item has just arrived, a review is in order as it concerns the quality of the various items making up the whole package rather than it's use as a chess or draughts game. After all, the quality of the game is entirely down to the players, eh? :-) I was really surprised at how well-made everything in the package is; and the fact that its all made of high quality woods with no blemish or structural faults visible. Even the hinges and the catches on the fold-out board are of good quality, not the usual misaligned thin pressed plate that bends or falls off with the first opening. The veneer and stringing making up the playing surface of the board is also immaculate. The chess pieces are not the highest quality available but they're well-shaped, smooth, properly proportioned and made of solid wood with a decent "varnish" finish. They're much better, though, than just adequate or satisfactory. For the money, they're very remarkable indeed. I could find only one tiny fault - one of the knights has it's magnet sticking out the bottom a little, pushing off the baize foot-disc, as the housing for the magnet has not been fully drilled out. Soon fixed. The board with this set isn't itself magnetic, by the way, but it's perhaps useful that the pieces are, so could be used with a full size magnetic travel board, where you want the pieces to be immune to being shaken off their positions by a railway train swaying or whatever. All in all, exceptional value and quality for the money. NB Subsequent investigation reveals that the metal "rounds" in the foot of the pieces, under the baize, are not themselves magnetic. I presume that the magnetic board-sets have a magnetic sheet under the board squares that attract the metal rounds in the feet of the pieces. The set I bought is the non-magnetic variety.

I bought a chess set - the A&A Chess natural wood set with 15" foldable chess board - and love it. The pieces are beautiful and the board is sturdy and well made, with metal clasps to keep it shut when not in use. The pieces are stored in individual slots inside the board when folded, so won't get lost or damaged during transportation. For less than £30 it's a bargain for such quality

Great Chess, very pleased ! Hours of fun !

Love the set it’s great quality and looks great - would have been 5stars but the only slight down side is that you have to get all the pieces out (including draughts) when you want to play but I kept the bag it came in and so put them in their whilst playing - we didn’t go for the magnetic one as I didn’t want to wait a bit longer for delivery but it would be better to get the magnetic one. Otherwise very pleased.

Déjà beaucoup de moments passés en famille avec ce jeu. Il ne resiste pas trop aux rayures mais il est solide, très bien fait et donne envie de jouer.

Jeu d’échecs ou de dames, style bois. J’apprécie son côté esthétique classique et élégant. Les pièces sont bien sculpté, ce qui ajoute une touche d’artisanat et de qualité de lors du jeux. Facile à mettre en place et encore plus à ranger grâce à son rangement qui est bien défini car chaque pièce à sa place. Des petits coussins en dessous de chaque pièce d’échecs sont présents afin de préserver la durabilité de celle-ci. Les pièces ne sont ni trop lourdes ni trop légère ce que j’apprécie. Enfin pour finir l’chéquier peut aussi bien être posé en déco que ranger dans un placard grâce au petit système de valisette. Je recommande sans hésiter

The quality of this chess board is excellent. Everything about it makes it feel exclusive, from the board itself and the pieces and how they have a dedicated place each inside, to the plastic bag around the board inside the paper box, to the small card with a thank you note for buying the product.
