Great bulbs, garbage app.
These light bulbs are awesome and very well built and feel like they will last a long time. Unfortunately due to a crappy app being the only way to control them, they are a waste of money.-The app doesn't allow white and rbg leds on at the same time. (this is a minor one, and might be a hardware limitation of the bulbs)-The app frequently forgets about my lights. On a daily basis (multiple times a day) I have to turn my lights off and back on then fiddle with the app until it finds them again.-No separate red, green, or blue control. It is just a color wheel which makes it difficult to get a precise color.-And perhaps the worst of all... the app requires location or it refuses to find bulbs! Why do they need to know where I am to connect to bluetooth devices?I dealt with the crap from this app for a while but when it started requiring location access I decided no more, I'm going to get some cheap RBG bulbs that come with a remote instead of hoping that the expensive bluetooth bulbs I buy can be controlled with an app that isn't crap. The bulbs probably won't be as nice, but at least then I won't have to deal with a crappy app that refuses to work without location access for no good reason.I recommend you stay far far away from these bulbs unless someone makes an app that doesn't suck to control them.

Cool product but disappointed...they buzz.
First off, I did NOT receive any discount or free product! Wish I would have because these are expensive. I absolutely love the look of these bulbs. It is very cool what you can do with them. I purchased the bluetooth variety and installation was easy. I have a track light with 5 fixtures on it in my den and I wanted some fun lights for parties and movie nights. I screwed them into my fixture and downloaded the app. The app recognized the lights immediately and I was able to control them. It took me a little while to figure out how to get them all in a group so I could work them together but that wasn't even that hard.My only disappointment, and the reason I gave them only 3 stars, is that they buzz when they are turned on...and it is loud. They buzz at the light bulb and also at the switch. So loud that I don't want to turn them on. You would not be able to hear them if you had loud music or a movie with the surround sound going but it is very annoying when sitting in the room watching regular TV. I am not sure what causes it. It may be because my track lighting is on a dimmer switch or because it is a 3 pole switch. I don't really want to spend the time and money changing out the dimmer switch to a regular one if that is not the solution. But I like the effect of these lights enough that I would do that if I knew for sure it would solve the problem.Would love to know if anyone else has had this problem?

Works fine but the app used to control the bulb needs more work
The software you download to your phone (I use mine on an iPad) is not very user-friendly and I would venture was written by someone for whom English is not their first language (not the end of the world but there are odd labels here and there that don't make a lot of sense to a native English speaker).I honestly just wanted a nice, basic but bright yellowish-white color and struggled for weeks with getting it to come on at a scheduled time with a specific color I found that I liked. The issue is when you are playing around on the app with finding a basic color, you have far more options than are displayed when you get into the "alarm" section of the app. The alarm times have been consistent - for me, it's just been pinning down the color setting that took a while to figure out.I do like that you can group multiple bulbs together on the app but at this price point and the current state of the app, I'm not ready to jump into purchasing multiple bulbs at this time.

It works
Tyco does a terrific video review. Here's what I'll add:1) It gets HOT. It has a built in heat sync so it's probably not an issue, but the heat sync gets very hot to touch after a few minutes.2) There is some flicker at minimum dimming levels.Still, I'm very impressed with the performance of this bulb. It does what it says and works very well. The app is easy to use.PS: Had some more time to play with it and read some of the reviews. First, I got no discount or freebies. Just my opinion of the product. Many reviews call this a WIFI bulb and some have issues with it as such. The bulb I have is bluetooth, NOT WiFi. There are WiFi bulbs and if that's what you want, you need to look at a different product. I chose this one for my daughter's room. I plan to put in some WiFi bulbs for common areas, but wanted her to have her own bulb that she could control--and I could set a timer on ;)As far as getting hot goes, I was playing with it using all the functions and at max output. I would suspect that generated a lot of the heat. And yes, the heat sink was very hot to the touch. The lense was not. I did play with it a bit more at lower levels and it was not as hot as my initial experience. There are complaints about the app. i'm using an iPhone and found the app to be very simple and easy to use. May be an updated version to what others had problems with. There are a lot of choices, but nothing complex.Regarding distance, I have not tested how far you can move away from it. If you want that, once again, go with WiFi. Bluetooth is generally good for in the same room type distances up to about 30' max. I had zero issues connecting to it with BT.I tested the timer function and it worked. First I set a simple off timer with my phone connected and it worked. I think set an off timer and turned off BT on my phone. It worked. It does have memory. You can turn off power and when power is turned on again, it will use the same settings it had when it was turned off. I verified this a couple of times with different modes The only question I have about turning off power is if it will retain the timers and how would it know the correct time until it reconnects to a phone? I guess that will be my next test. I assume it has an internal clock that is set when it connects to BT on the phone and that clock would reset when power is removed.I would buy this or other similar products from Lumen8 based on this experience.
