Brandon Sanderson est un magicien. Il nous prend par la main et nous conduit là où il veut. Il introduit même subtilement un zeste de science-fiction dans cette (brillante) série de Fantasy. Les rebondissements sont nombreux, l'histoire garde un rythme soutenu et reste caractérisée par de l'action, encore de l'action. Wax et Wayne sont des personnages hautement sympathiques. Honnêtement, on supportera bien un quatrième volume de leurs aventures sans problème ! C'est inventif, intelligent, nerveux et super bien écrit. Brillant (comme d'hab).

One of the strongest aspects of the book is its sense of adventure. The journey across unfamiliar lands, combined with clues, myths, and unexpected dangers, gives the story an almost Indiana Jones-like feel. Each step brings new discoveries, keeping readers engaged and curious about what lies ahead. The characters continue to shine, especially Wax and Wayne. Their friendship adds humor and emotional depth, balancing the intense action with lighter moments. Steris, in particular, shows significant growth, becoming more confident and integral to the group. What makes this book a great read is how it deepens the Mistborn world. Sanderson introduces new ideas about ancient powers, lost civilizations, and the origins of the Bands. The twists in the later part of the story are especially impactful, changing how readers see the entire series. The writing is clear, engaging, and cinematic. The magic system remains as fascinating as ever, with creative uses of Allomancy and Feruchemy adding excitement to every conflict. Overall, The Bands of Mourning is a thrilling and satisfying read. The Bands of Mourning delivers exactly what you might expect both from this series and from Mr Sanderson. These aspects include: 1 - Further exploration of the already awesome Mistborn magic systems (Never fails to be even more exciting with each outing) 2 - More humour as Wayne continues to see and interact through the world through his own twisted sense of logic 3 - Yet more pressure is added to Wax's shoulders and he must again dig deep to rise to the occasion 4 - Marasi continues to find her way to make her impact on their current adventure and discover her place in the world 5 - Lots of awesome action and adventure that continues to fill you with a sense of awe as Mr Sanderson ramps up the tension All of these elements were in this book in abundance and I loved them all. However, it was the new aspects that really caught my attention this time round. Mr Sanderson continues to draw back the curtain on Scardrial (the world in which this series is set) and develops perviously unseen parts of this world. These new aspects have an effect on not only this series, but the original Mistborn series as well. These new glimpses not only served to expand the story into new avenues that will no doubt help the story continue to evolve, but opened up new depths to this already rich series. By far the biggest success of this book for me was Steris. I felt that she has been a little overlooked in the previous two books. That's not a bad thing as other characters and storylines needed developing. In this book however, it was Steris' turn to shine and though we only got one partial chapter told from her point of view, her character has been seriously evolved in this book. She has gone from something of a weight dragging the heroes down to a protagonist figure in her own right. Most importantly, what fans of this series will want to hear is that this book does exactly what a penultimate book in a series should do. It nicely progresses the story, turns a few things you took for granted on their head, and sets the stage for the final novel. Don't get me wrong there's still a lot of mystery left for the last book and there were some big new questions raised in this book, but I get a sense of rising tension that can only lead to an epic conclusion to come. Overall, another great book and now I just can't wait for the finale. The only down side is we won't get that till after the next Stormlight book. But being as I am a Stormlight fan as well, that's not all that much of a compromise. If you've been keeping up with this series so far, then you will love this book. If however you have never read a Mistborn book, then go back and start with The Final Empire. You won't regret it.
