awesome device
I haven't added video because I think the ones already up are quite accurate. So if that looks good to you for the price then go right ahead. Once I got the unit I put an old Stevie Wonder cassette from 1980 I bought at a charity shop a couple years ago but never played. Everything sounded great - similar to a classic Sanyo or Technics unit from those days. The radio is 100% legit just like a unit from 1982. If you like listening to games on the radio then this will work much better than a clock radio. Heard some hip hop on a college radio station on the FM dial sounded crystal clear perfect stereo. Also has all the blue tooth functions and USB so you can easily plug a CD-R player in to listen to CDs. I put 4 D batteries in for the old school appeal and it fired up like Back To The Future. Love this thing. Was going to buy the silver one but I decided someone else should have it for a holiday gift. maybe next year I'll get an upgraded model! EDIT: HAD IT FOR A MONTH NOW NO ISSUES 4 Ds still pumping tunes getting the game nice also bluetooth connection is very strong and in stereo. Great sound. Tape deck is fine too. I don't digitize old tapes can't review that. But I didn't want that - honestly if you have super rare live cassette tapes that need to be digitized because of sentimental value don't get this, just go to a local audio dealer they can help you in fine style. That old New Edition mixtape from 1983 you want to play? guaranteed Amazon music can hook you up with a nice 70s or 80s mix if you ask nice

4.9899376599416 star rating
I LOVE my Riptunes radio. I mainly use the USB port, Bluetooth streaming and regular radio. I have not used the Tape deck yet, I plan too sometime in the future, but as of now I cannot speak to its quality. The memory card slot has not been used either. I use my Riptunes while taking a shower (NOT IN THE SHOWER WITH ME!!), And use it regularly outside when doing yard work or tinkering in my garage. The sound is very good. There is no booming bass, which is fine for my 55 year old ears, but it is balanced and has a nice quality. Plenty Loud. Has nice weight. Doesn't feel overtly cheap. The chrome plastic is a little Meh but not a show stopper. An easy 5 star rating for me...rounded up from a 4.9899376599416 star rating.

Best nostalgia purchase ever
This boombox made my day. It’s not heavy and the sound quality is great. I love that you have the option to use a plug or put in batteries for on the go. Highly recommend this product. Picks up radio stations easily too.

Good Bluetooth player with some boombox functionality
I also own the smaller Riptunes boombox that's sold here on Amazon. I bought this one in hopes that the cassette recording capability would be better than the other one, but unfortunately it seems it's not. More on that below. The AM, FM, shortwave radio works credibly well, with good to very good reception on all bands. The biggest limitation is the tuner, which is a thumb wheel on top, rather than a knob as you typically see on units of this size. This makes it a little hard to pinpoint weak stations, but with a steady hand you can manage. Strong stations are no problem. Bluetooth works well and pairs right up. If you put in a micro SD card or USB drive, the unit will automatically default to that when it is in "BT/TF USB" mode. Sound quality through Bluetooth and USB is this unit's strongest suit. Put some good music through it and it sounds very pleasant. And, it gets nice and loud, so you could play it at the picnic or in the backyard. Playing cassettes works fine. They're muddier sounding than Bluetooth/SD/USB but, you know, they're cassettes. The problem comes if you try to record on this: The recorded audio sounds too "hot" and distorted, as if the automatic level control is set too high. Exactly the same problem as the other Riptunes unit. You can get a halfway passable tape recording out of it if you record a Bluetooth source and experiment with different volume settings on your connected device to find which one will give you the clearest audio, but even at best the recording you get is nothing to write home about. But, if all you want to do is play tapes you're good to go. Just as an FYI, the only currently-available boombox I know of that'll make good quality cassette recordings is the Sony CFD-S70. It's about the same price as this one on Amazon. It lacks Bluetooth/SD/USB capability but it has an Aux input so you can run other audio through it - and record it on tape if you want - that way. The Sony also has a CD (w/MP3 format) player and this Riptunes unit doesn't have a CD player, so it's just a trade-off based on what you want. So the four-star is an average. If you want to make your own 80s-esque mix tapes, forget it, this gets one star for recording. But I give it four stars for radio and tape playing, five stars for Bluetooth/USB/SD playing.

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY
Bought as a retro gift for an 80s themed birthday party. Looks cool, and you can Bluetooth play and record it to a cassette, which is a cool feature because wanted to make an 80s mix tape to put in it as part of the gift. HOWEVER, although sound quality is good when playing through Bluetooth, it’s not good at all on the tape you record from Bluetooth, very degraded, even more so than it was in the actual 80s. Also, as you’re recording, the tape player randomly stops, and then you have to rewind and start over, which was very frustrating. Anyway, if you want a cool looking retro Bluetooth speaker, this is good. If you want quality, you probably need to find something else. Update… Now the tape player buttons on the top are completely stuck, and the tape will not eject or play. DO NOT BUY THIS!!!

Love the retro look
Love the retro old school look. I keep In the garage on top of my workbench and it’s on almost 24/7. Wish it was built in battery but I guess we can’t have it all.
