How durable is this easel? Can i set it outside on a covered porch without worrying about warping? Anyone have it 1yr from now?

Very durable. I am a professional caricature artist and use the easel to draw at events around D.C, Maryland and Virginia. Constantly setting it up and taking it down, drawing for 3-4 hours at a time. I have never left it set up on a covered porch but wouldn’t have any qualms about doing so. I have used my French Easel for over 3 years.

This one has been varnished for wood protection. Makes a great deal of difference for outside wear and tear.

Is the handle real leather or synthetic?

Sorry it took so long to answer I bought it for my daughter and had to wait on her, No the handle is not leather but she is happy with how sturdy it is and how it folds up to move it.

Can this be used to paint on paper?

As am artist I like to find creative ways to make things work. Honestly, it will fit a sheet of paper. I tent to tape my pages to guesso boards and that will sit just fine on the easal. However, if you really want to be nuts like I am... Velcro!!! Is the gods temporary glue!!!

Looks and works like a charm....but its HEAVY!

This is a beautiful easel. I would not take it on a plane though. Its very heavy. I travelled quite a bit with it and although its very cool looking, sturdy, and easy to set up, its not fun to take on a plane or carry in an airport. If you are travelling with your car to 'plein air' paint, it would work fine. Next time I fly I will take a light aluminum easel. Its hard to ride a bike with it....its great, just too heavy.

Needs better instructions

It was infinite pain to put this thing together. The instructions are worthless. I managed to put it up for the most part, however, the rear leg has a weird attachment to it that just hangs there. According to the instructions it suppose to connect the back leg with the undercarriage, but it just doesn’t reach that far and there is nothing to attach it to. We just ignore it, but it’s weird. Other than that - not bad, my son like to use it for his art projects.
