Q: Does the baseball touch the glass in the case or is there space between the ball and the glass (including top)?

No, the ball doesn't touch the viewing sides of the case, there is adequate space. The baseball rests on a "cradle" at the bottom of the case. BTW, it's all plastic and not glass, but very clear. It allows for clear viewing of autographs on all sides except the bottom which is somewhat obscured by the cradle.

It’s u shaped. It took us a minute to figure out.

It slides open. Kind of hard to explain.

Q: What is the largest sized ball it will hold? I see it holds a modern-sized baseball comfortably, but some vintage balls are slightly larger.

A modern baseball is maybe a mm from touching the sides. I'd opt for a larger case if your ball is not the current standard size.
