One of the staples in my pantry
I love this sauce. My mom used it or Old World Style Mushroom (bring it back, Ragu!) when I was a kid, so there is definitely a nostalgia aspect for me, but I also think it tastes great. Its got good tomato flavor and is light on herbs which I am fine with- I can always fancy it up depending what i use it for (For chili I add bay leaves, etc. If it's my mom's quick meat sauce it's oregano and basil, and so on.) I feel it's more versatile that the super heavy seasoned Prego for instance, which i feel detracts from the tomatoes. My Italian friends growing up always had a basic tomato sauce in their family's repertoire and Ragu reminds me of that. The price can't be beat and the ingredients are straightforward- no added stuff for texture or whatever, just reliable things like olive oil and onion. Great all around sauce.
