How long will the product remain good after opening the bottle?

this is the second time I've bought a bottle of this product. The first one I bought from a local auto parts. When the first one ran out it was over 20 years old and still good. It will last a long time as long as you seal the lid well and don't leave it open for long periods. I use it then put the lid right back on

Is this compatible with plastic fittings? I have a diesel storage tank with 3/4" threads that leak a little and I am looking for a sealant.

I primarily use this on Triumph motorcycle cases and it is the best Permatex (or any) product for the job. I've also used it on rubber pipes to metal banjos and it worked well there too. I suspect that it would work well in your situation but I have not used it on plastic and there are so many kinds of plastic that I would test it first. Personally, on threads where gas or oil is involved, I use the yellow Teflon tape -- it seals gasoline so diesel should be no problem.

My red plastic Moeller marine portable 6 gallon fuel tank has some small gas leaks around the screw on caps - think it would be safe to use...?

It would probably be safe to use but when mine was apparently shipped in a non-pressurized airplane hold. The cap was intact but the sealer had leaked out all over. I will buy locally next time. Auto stores may have it or may be able to get it.

would this work for marine freshwater outboard motor such as water pump gasket sealer

I don't see why it won't..I used it on my oil pump ad my water pump...works great...no leaks..oil, antifreeze does not have any affect on it..Good stuff.

Messy but oh so good!

I am not a vine reviewer so I speak the truth. This still is a must for any mechanical repairs. It is very messy and loves to go places you don't expect. Loves to drip and find it's way to butter finger prints. It acts like a lubricant on threads, like bolts and fittings, so they go together nice and smooth. This stuff use to be called Gasket Shellac in the old times. This works for gaskets, but also as a thread sealant, like for intake bolts, and head bolts.
