Why is the 16oz so expensive now?

For other users who are wondering about the strong odor (disagreeable to some), I believe that this is the cod liver oil.  I am old enough to have been served a teaspoon of cod liver each morning at breakfast just before I drank my orange juice.  By the time the 50's rolled around and Dr. Spock had become more popular, dosing kids with straight cod liver oil was less popular.  But memories of its smell are burned into the olfactory senses.  Zinc Oxide has germicidal properties, but no odor.  I believe it is also used to shield the skin from UV rays in sunscreen formulations.
I have experienced total urinary incontinence for more than 10 years.  As part of my adaptation to this condition, I have researched most of the protective clothing, pads, lotions and creams to make daily life as agreeable and convenient as possible.  Dealing with skin which can become irritated after prolonged exposure to urine is always a challenge.  The Desitin Brand 16 oz. tubs of paste are among the best I routine treatments I have found.  But these package sizes have been discontinued by the manufacturer;  there is even rumor that Desitin has been varying the composition and/or the quantities of the ingredients in its healing paste.  As codfish is one of the world's most depleted fisheries, I can imagine that cod liver oil could be hard to come by.  If Desitin is using a synthetic oil, did they replicate to distinctive cod liver aroma too?
It's worth noting that infant bottoms are not the only market for a really effective healing and protective skin product.  The baby boom generation is coming into senescence (ie reaching retirement and increased health issues), among which is partial or total urinary incontinence.  I am fortunate to be able to consult with both suppliers and consumers of adult diapers, reusable and disposable, as well as lifestyle adjustments which do not depend solely on taking more medication or getting surgical intervention.
If Desitin was smart, it would develop new branding catering to an emerging and growing demographic.

What is the validity of the product?

My little one got a diaper rash from another brand diaper cream at 5 weeks old .. I switched to Desitin maximum strength and he has never gotten another rash, he'll be two years old in two weeks. As a first time mom, I say "go for it"

I want question Amazon's sudden outrageous rise in price. $49.09 for a product available at most drug stores for ~$13, is ridiculous!

This product is available in a few different strengths. The 40% zinc oxide is the strongest available. I doubt you can get maximum strength for $13 anywhere.

Why is this being sold for $39.95 when you can go to a store and purchase it for $14? Usually items are less on Amazon than in the stores.
