Impressive Switch
Like most Ubiquiti products this is a very high quality piece of equipment. The case is well constructed with everything fitting together perfectly. There's no rattling or loose parts inside. It feels very heavy and at 6.17 lb (without rack mount brackets) it weighs more than most 15" Notebooks which is surprising for a network switch in my opinion. But I don't consider the weight a negative, far from it. It feels like a quality piece of equipment and although weight doesn't indicate quality it's nice that it's not using thin sheet metal that flexes when you pick it up.In the box I received a UK plug, two rack-mount brackets, some screws to screw the switch to a wall or desk and four rubber grommets to be placed on the base of the switch in the event you're using it on a desk. The functionality of the switch is as you would expect from a product within the UniFi family. It's straight forward to setup with the free UniFi Controller software and very intuitive. I feel that you do need some understanding of networking to get the most from this switch but out of the box it just works, that is to say you can plug things in and it will function as a switch with the PoE+ features enabled from the get go.To setup VLAN's, Port Aggregation and other advanced features you will need the UniFi Controller software and understand networking but as I said that's just to get the most out of it. There are cheaper "dumb" PoE+ switches out there (almost half the cost in-fact) if you're just looking for a gigabit switch with power over ethernet. At the front-right of the switch you'll find 16 8P8C Ethernet jacks (also commonly referred to as RJ45). Beside those you have two SFP ports which are independent ports meaning technically this is an 18 port switch. On the far front-left you have the Ubiquti logo which lights up in different colours to indicate the status of the switch (the lights can be turned off from the UniFi Controller if you prefer). At the back you have another 8P8C/RJ45 port which is for console use. According to the manual you can attach an Ethernet to Serial cable to the port to get console access but I have not tested it as I have no need for it. And finally the kettle cord power jack is present on the back as-well. On both sides of the switch there are intake air vents. My main concern when purchasing this switch was that it has two fans and I didn't want it to be noisy as I would be using it on a desk in a quiet room. I was also concerned about dust buildup inside the unit, I don't want to have to take it apart every year to blow out the dust bunnies. But my concerns were unwarranted as in my use the fans actually don't spin at all. I have 10 devices connected, two of which are PoE+ devices and draw a combined 12 Watts. In this usage the switch reports its internal temperature to be 67c and the fans are completely turned off. It would appear the fans are temperature controlled and no-doubt it will increase in temperature the closer you get to the 150 Watt output PoE rating. When the system first turns on it does run both fans at full speed to make sure they're present and functional before they switch off. I didn't find this sound abusive to my ears, it was actually a bit difficult to hear the fans in the unit over the ambient noise of the room which contains a quiet desktop computer.Another bonus of this switch is it reports the power use of each PoE device connected to it and the power supply of the switch is internal so you don't have to find a place for an AC to DC power brick. It takes a standard UK kettle cord that you would use with any normal computer and I found one was present in the box for me.There's not much else to say about the switch, the performance is excellent with very little jitter and the overall average latency is very low, with my testing under 0.08ms which puts it a hairs breath quicker than my previous Netgear managed switch. An imperceptible difference but a good test to check the switch is working correctly. This switch is simply another great example of Ubiquiti's prowess when it comes to networking equipment and I do believe this is one of the best switches on the market only bested by Ubiquiti's own higher end models that feature even more ports than this one.

Decent but disappointed
We had one of these POE switches for just over 17 months before it died on us. It was in a stable air conditioned environment with not much to do. After 17 months it just up and died on us. The fans start and then stop after a few seconds and the thing won't light up. Checked the Ubiquity website and they only offer a 12 month warranty, for equipment that should really be lasting 5+ years.Unless they do something about their warranties I'd stay away from their equipment. It's not just the expense of buying the thing, it's the labour involved in setting up that costs the most.

Another great Ubiquiti product
I recently bought one of these switches to replace an older Netgear switch:- very easy to setup; I plugged it in, loaded the software onto my computer and pressed a couple of buttons- once connected to the software it provides a great insight into network load, traffic, etc.- the switch is accessed via a really good web interface which provides high level of detail (I didn't get this with my previous switch which admittedly was a lot more basic)- works really well with UniFi access points (I have 2 different access points and both connected to the network with no issues)- although when I first powered up the switch I could hear the fan going, I haven't heard it since (I suspect it only switches on when it's warm, my switch has remained cool at all times so it's dead quiet)- it also has PoE on a couple of ports which is great (especially for powering my UniFi access points).Note that I have purchased a USG but still need to configure it properly (I have a BT Smart Hub which doesn't have a bridge mode so apparently both the Smart Hub and USG will issue IP addresses... I'm hoping that disabling DHCP on the Smart Hub will solve the problem).

Returned as not good value for money
Way overpriced for what it is. Managed to get the same functionality from a Netgear switch with 24 ports instead of 16. The WAP's are great but these managed switches are way too complicated than they need to be. Personally, I don't like the cloud management aspect of these UniFi products. Just remember, if you're getting rid of the computer that you've got the controller software setup on, ensure you unadopt your devices first!

Excellent hardware and looks stylish to boot.
This is great kit and combined with the cloud key and USG router and Access point I have a great home network now that is all singing and dancing. easy to install and set up. I have it in a 6u 19" rack along with my other networking kit and NAS. offering power over ethernet for my access point and cloud key.
