is this a thick dark liquid (syrup)?

Yes - thick and sticky. I dip the plastic mini spoon into my hot water, then the Ginseng. Makes it easier to come off the spoon. I add one little spoon full to each cup of tea. It gives me a great boost of energy in the morning and again after lunch. Have used this for 2 years now and highly recommend.

Is the jar containing the extract made from glass or plastic? And is this white or red ginseng tea?

The bottle seems to me to be made of glass. I don't know the difference between red and white ginseng./ I feel better when I'm using this ginseng. From what I've read, it helps the blood to carry oxygen and to take away impurities. Since it is an adaptogen, it does other things as well. It helps me relax, but I am told it can help put extra adrenalin into your body if you need it. I like the taste, but it is strong and different from anything else I can think of.
