how big is it closed?

The Closed Size of the (32) Tool Count Pouch Pocket Organizer is Dependent Upon how many tools and the size of the tools that are placed into the tool pouch organizer. I have pretty large tools, so my tool organizer size rolled up was appx. (4) inches in diameter, which is a very good size that fits into my larger tool case with dimensions of 23.75 x 16.89 x 10.50 inches...

Any recommendations for a toolset to fill this bad boy out?

I would recommend making a list of all the tools you might need for your application first and then just buy them, keeping in mind size and weight considerations. I use this roll for my BMW motorcycles and they have some specific requirements (hex sockets, torx sockets, etc.) if you buy an off the shelf tool kit to put in the roll, I think you could end up with a bunch of tools you will not need.
