Precision Sensors ProFinder 5000+ Deep Scanning Stud Finder

This is by far the easiest and best stud finder I have ever used. Sure it doesn't have some of the super fancy features of of other more expensive units (voltage finder, pipe finder, etc.) but it works every time and is accurate. I especially like that you can see the whole width of the stud at once so that you know where the center of the stud is. Highly recommended!!!

Fantastic stud finder. I had bought a more expe sive one from home depot and my friebd a had this one and it worked way better then the home depot one! I still have this and use it to this day! It's a little bulky but works great and is a good straight edge as well.

The answer to the question is yes, this is the identical product as the Franklin Sensors model 710. That’s per the company who makes it. They created the blue model primarily for club stores (and here) and sell the yellow one at retail. The only non-product-related difference is that the yellow one has a manuf contact number whereas the blue one should be returned to the store for warranty.Let’s be clear upfront that this is not the perfect stud finder. Being the 4th one I own I can attest to none of them being perfect and in fact sometime I use 2-3 of them to double check against each other if the project involves drilling holes that would be an issue cosmetically or if I am mounting something heavy and expensive (like a TV) and want to be absolutely sure I am in the center of the stud not the edge. Most of the time, but not all of the time, they are about the same in their reading but what I’m concerned about is those times that they are NOT in agreement.If you own other stud sensors you know that the common procedure is that you have to turn them on, hold them against the wall to calibrate, and then sweep them slowly until they sense a stud. This model is a little different in that you simply press the on button and hold it to the wall. You can either move it or slide it as you choose. There are 13 LED lights and for most normal studs 3 or 4 of them with light up when you are dead center on the stud.It works well for normal walls, and by that I mean when the wall is interior grade wallboard and the stud are normal vertical ones. The manufacture does not make any claims that this device will differentiate between different types of studs, sense electrical wires and conduit or sense nails, it is NOT a metal detector. That is one of the reasons I still keep and use another stud sensor that detects and reports metal objects and electrical current. It works best if you have a wide expanse of wall, which is common, but it is awkward to use for small spaces, rounded or uneven walls, corners, and close to the edge of any wall (not that it doesn’t work, it’s physical size just makes it more difficult to place it where you want it). The Profinder does not beep, flash a marker light or even indicate the precise center of the stud but because it displays the LEDS across the entire width of a common stud it is easy to find and mark the center. A plus is that it has a built-in measuring ruler and a fairly accurate level … it seems those are two things I never have handy when I am mounting something to a wall.This is the first model of stud sensor I’ve used that glides smoothly across the wall, part of that is due to it being about a foot wide and using Teflon guides. Smaller handheld stud finders tend to jump around if the wall surface isn’t smooth.I would not classify this as the best one out there and you need to know it isn’t designed to be the answer to every job. But for the majority of typical everyday tasks it is now the first one I grab and the one I most depend on for everyday use.

As a contractor/handyman I love being able to drag this on a wall and find studs so accurately. I don't have to worry about marring the wall either with the strips on the back of unit. So easy to use too. Love the wide area that continues to show stud location as you move it. Easy way to verify stud location. This is my second unit as I smashed the first one. If I break this one, I WILL be ordering again.

I bought this stud finder specifically for its claimed abilities to penetrate deeply enough to find studs under the stucco on my home's exterior. Nope, it couldn't do it. Over several hours of being careful, I finally thought it had located a stud well enough to drill for my first lag bolt but nope, the stud ended up being10" away. Works great under normal wall surfaces but not under stucco whose chicken-wire lath confuses it too much.

Great product and it works just like they say it does. Makes hanging pictures and what ever you may hang on the wall. It finds the stud with 3 lines on a 2x4 hit the middle one and you are good to go I have yet to have it missed. I just moved this year and this product helped out bunches. I would buy again and the price is worth every penny!

This is the best stud sensor I have used. I have used several of the ones that detect one stud at a time and they work but are more difficult to use. This one gives you three lights for a stud and if it is really a stud, the lights will move across the device as it slides across the wall. It sometimes gives false readings but the "moving lights" routine seem to eliminate almost all of them. Use is as simple as install batteries, put against the wall and press the button.

Had a girl friend 30 years ago who bought one of the first one to come out, can't remember the company name, think it started with an L. I laughed at her because we all know real men can locate a stud by knocking, am I right? But after using hers I was hooked, the only problem is I never found one as accurate and dependable, I plain threw out a few and I've got 4-5 somewhere in a drawer that I should take to good will. This is the best. After almost 2 years the button can take a couple presses before it comes on but that is seldom. I like to wait till I use a product for a year before I write a review but this has been much longer
