not an easy install for 8' ceilings
So I installed this vent this past weekend and have the following to relate: First if you're installing this unit on a 8' ceiling, you will need to cut both the upper and lower hanging brackets to do so. This is not really a big deal as most of these type fans utilize this type of hanging bracket to hold the unit up. However this unit has embedded threaded nuts. When you cut these brackets, you'll be cutting off four of these as they are on the top few inches of the lower bracket, leaving you with only two screws to make the attachment for each bracket. This could have been engineered better, spreading out the threaded nuts along the length of the bracket to have a more secure attachment. Again this would not be an issue if you're doing this on a 9 or 10' ceiling as you would use the whole length of the bracket. You will need to have a regular wall plug in your ceiling as it comes with a standard wall plug. It's not easily hardwired as the plug is bundled with other wiring. When attaching the main fan to the duct, you'll need a helper for sure as you must line up the holes to the bracket. I've installed other vents like this which were much easier to install at this point which utilized a snap in type attachment. This step is tedious as you must align it just right. Not a big deal, but again could have been engineered better. When I went to attach the actual vent, it comes with a flexible aluminium 6" duct. I was planning on using rigid 6" duct, however after I used a reducer 8" to 6" (my old fan used 8) I noted the 6" duct was too loose of a fit. I had to now use the supplied aluminium tubing. When I finally cinched down the hose clamp, you can see some buckling of the aluminium duct. Seems the 6" adapter is just a little too small. The big issue for me with this install is the duct covers. If you're installing on the 8' ceiling again, you have to cut the upper duct covers, (both of them). I used a diamond cutting blade on a 4in grinder and carefully cut the covers doing multiple passes to accomplish this. This is not a job for everyone and its too thick to cut with simple hand shears. After cutting it I had to use a sanding disc on the same grinder to remove the burr off the edge as well. once this was done the rest of the installation went well. the lower duct covers went on without issue. Why they just didn't make these to fit with an 8" ceiling and sell the longer cover for higher ceilings is beyond me. So I finally turn it on and ....the lights are a very cold blue (like 5000k) compared to a 3000k bulb. They apparently make a warmer white light, but you'll have to purchase it (10.00 ea) separately. Wish I could have ordered it with the warm light. The included lights are really not very bright. My old vent had two halogen bulbs and was brighter than this vent with six lights. They are also not a standard led bulb, they have a soldered pigtail on them with a special connector and bezel... So the actual test. Mind you I'm using a 36"range top with the pan on the outer burner. Cast Iron skillet, blacked fish. Not really super high heat (which would have made more smoke). With the fan setting on "4" (highest speed), I noticed a small amount of smoke spilling out of the hood, but mostly pulling it out. I expected a little better performance on it compared to my old vent which was only rated at 400 cfm. I like the filters, heavy gauge stainless and easily removable for cleaning and the overall look of the unit, but a little disappointed with the performance and the lights not to mention the difficult install.

Just an average unit !
When first opened, we noticed a small dent on corner !!! The unit was quite heavy and would require 2 persons to lift it. Once installed I notice the chimney cover was too short even though I submitted the order for a 10 feet ceiling with a 3 feet high stove top ? The resolution was I had to order an extension kit (almost $200 more!) The noise level is not as subtle as I expected after reading all the reviews, it gets annoying after about 20 min of usage. Suctioning is about average, unit is mounted 29 inches up from the stove top.

Love this range hood!
I had an island hood that almost did nothing with a loud noise before. This one is totally different. It's not as powerful as I expected but definitely does the job. And it's so quiet! I have no problem talking with my husband when the hood is on. Now I don't need to worry about the odor anymore.

What more could you want?
Installed and have been using for 6 months now. One of the best decisions we made in our kitchen remodel. It sucks! , Vents our cook top perfectly, well made and solid, 6 lights are great, looks like a unit that cost much more, relativity quite, and a good value.

Beautiful Island range exhaust
Beautiful Island range exhaust. Needed to make some modification to the upper bracing and cover, the brackets are 19" long. I needed to reduce them to 18".
