I was amazed and honored really to be able to feel this man's life in such a raw and personal way. It's so personal, so deep and honest. I felt such sadness and felt his pain on his life's journey. I also celebrated his triumphs. I was meant to read this book. It spoke to me on so many human levels. I am a parent of an addict. I have a now 30-year-old son who continues to be lost in the world of addiction, mental illness and homelessness. I wrote a book about our journey called, "The King of Seattle". The person my son believed himself to be. This book helped me to understand so much more about the addicts perspective. It helped me with my anger towards my son. It gave me hope that perhaps there may be an end to this nightmare I and mostly my son is living. I feel like Khalil had so many strings of luck, so many opportunities that most won't have, but what he also had the determination to do well for himself. He has a good soul, a resistance that not too many people have. No matter how low his life became, others saw the good in him. He was truly meant for bigger things. I'm glad he found his peace and his joy. I thank him for helping others now and in the past. I thank him for sharing this remarkable story of courage, strength and ultimately, spiritual peace.

Realistic Look at Drug Addict's Life
Rafati has an amazing story to tell and he does it effectively with a wry sense of humor and sparing no details of the grim horrors a drug addict will endure to get a fix. Rafati traces his early encounters with alcohol and drugs as a youth in Toledo, Ohio, son of an abusive father and social outcast due to his middle eastern heritage. He drives solo as a teenager to California where his addiction become full blown. His saving grace is his work ethic which he uses in a series of menial jobs for wealthy LA movie and music people, but also as a drug procurer for these same people. Rafati's attempts at rehab take the reader on a roller coaster of emotions and will keep you reading to the very end. Well written book.

God saved Him!
God was his true source of healing and love. He finally surrendered his stuff to our creator. Lots of awful details I didnโt want to read but his life was very hard. I pray God continues to work On his wounds and heal his heart.

A great read
Although I never experienced any of the events in this book, I am a Mom of a Son who died of Acute Fentanyl Overdose. This book gave me hope for others on the same path.

Great read!
This was a great read. I felt the authors pain and struggles right along with him. As a recovering addict myself, I know how hard it is. I knew immediately when he gave his date of sobriety that that was his final stint in rehab. There was only one part in the book that didn't sit right with me and that was when he was describing the type of people he was going to employ at his juice bars. I felt like that was pretty judgemental bit other than that, it was an excellent read.

Amazing/inspiring story!
Very well written story of a man who lived a real life & found himself on the other side. I finished this book in less than 24 hours. I want to thank him for sharing such a real, raw, painful, personal story. We all need to be reminded of what life is & can be.

What an amazing journey Khalistan. From the lowest points a man can get, to a wonderful success and inspiration . I am a recovering heroin addict, I read a lot of books from other addicts, however your story is by far the most moving in every way possible. I will read this book again, and I would recommend your book to anyone and everyone. Fantastic. Thank you for surviving and forgetting to die.
