After cycling through numerous gates for the upper level of my home, the BabyDan Odense gate has emerged as the clear victor. Cons: Installation Requires Tools: You'll need to be okay with using some basic tools as installation involves marking and screwing into the wall. Verdict: The BabyDan Odense gate is hands down the best gate I've tried for securing staircases. Its design is smart, with an easy removal feature that actually works as promised—don’t mind the naysayers, they probably skipped the tutorial. This gate combines safety, simplicity, and strength, making it an excellent choice for parents or pet owners. It’s a straightforward solution that actually does what it promises, making it a worthy investment for peace of mind at home.

Isn't it wonderful when our little bundles of joy turn into little explorers who seem to have a "mummy has just sat down and got comfy" sensor, that triggers them to turn into feral creatures who must venture where no baby has been allowed to venture before? Not. This was the exact issue I had with my darling daughter, so looked around for stair gates. I had used the pressure fit gates with my older children, and I wasn't having anymore so I had got rid of them. Apparently my partner didn't get the memo about no more babies, so here we are. One thing that used to really bugged me about the pressure fit gates was that there was a bar at the bottom that you have to step over, aside from the fact that it meant going through the hassle of removing the whole gate to hoover properly, it was a massive trip hazard. Somehow it only became a trip hazard after a few drinks, but I'm sure it wasn't the drink and it was definitely the stair gates fighting back. So I was looking for gates that didn't have the bar, didn't cost a fortune, and were easy enough for my older children to operate without being flimsy enough for my feral creature to rip it down, (another issue we had with the pressure fit gates, my eldest used to try and be a monkey to climb over it and after a few attempts it would cause the gate to move and come away, taking half the wall and most of my sanity with it) I originally bought 2 of these gates that weren't extendable, exactly the same but just a standard door way width. They are perfect, exactly what I wanted, and fitted the kitchen door way perfectly. However, they weren't wide enough for my stairs, so I was starting to worry that I'd end with a bar beating me again, but then like a shining beacon of hope, this extendable gate appeared on my suggested items. It is absolutely perfect, easy to install, easy to operate, and the little devil in disguise can't get it open/off the wall as its screwed in!! Mummy 1-0 Daughter. For now. I'm sure she'll change that in no time.

The product seems sturdy and good quality. But the installation is a bit of a nightmare. It took me over 1 h, the lock seems to go too hard and stiff if you do not fit it perfectly. So in order for the gate to be smooth enough and easy to open and close, it requires a very careful installation. But really sturdy and now that I have installed it properly it looks great and operates smoothly.

I was on the look out for a safety gate that would fit on our attic stairs, all standard gates was to big for the space. This seamed expensive and I was unsure at first if it would even fit the space but thankfully it did, the gate is very good quality and easy to fit making the space useable and safe for our little girl.

If you want a pretty baby gate that's durable and will stay on that door frame for a couple of years, get this. If you're going to move the gates around from time to time, maybe get a gate you don't have to screw into the frame. I really liked these and thought they looked lovely.

When we decided to foster dogs pending their permanent rehoming, I realised that I needed to put a gate in my open front porch as we have no gates on our front driveway. This was the only economically priced gate that I could find that would fit across the porch without the need to purchase costly extension pieces. The width of the gate is easily adjustable to fit a wide range of gaps. It was very easy to fix in place even for a mere woman like me. The locking mechanism, dessigned to be toddler proof, is also dog proof. The gate is sufficiently high to keep up to a medium [labrador] sized dog safe and within the home when an external door is open. My gate has now been in place for around nine months and is still working perfectly. I have every confidence that it will continue to keep my dog safely secured within my home when the front door is open. Therefore, I have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone wanting a gate to keep either toddlers or their dog safely out of harms way whether the intention is to use this item in a stairway, an internal doorway or in the same manner as that in which I have used it.

We needed my husband and son working at their best to put this together and install it. You need a wall that is the same all the way up - no skirtingboard - so my son added a wooden part to the wall to make it even. Such a faff. However, once properly installed it is sturdy, easy to use, and easy to remove when the grandchildren have gone. If you can cope with the demands on your DIY skills (I couldn't!) it's a very good gate.

First of all the gate doesnt come with wall fittings so you’ll need to get your own. Second, the plastic is very soft and it’ll likely shatter in future on the latch side of the gate. Apart from that, its doing its job and hopefully it’ll last. We picked this up at a discount of £36, not sure why anyone would pay the full price for the gates as it is cheap fittings and plastic.

Just pictures for instructions but I managed to install it without any mistakes. The bolts joining the two wooden sections together were too short so I had to buy 4 bolts but cost was less than $1. It is just as I imagined and very easy to use
