How do you sharpen this pencil?

There is a sharpener in the screw off top. However, it'll end up a mess if you use it much. I recommend doing a search for "5.6 mm lead sharpener" on Google, and buying a stand-alone one. I like ones that are enclosed and catch the shavings like the KUM 206KM (DISC).

There are no markings on the lead holder that indicate the country of origin. However, the Koh-I-Noor company has its origins in the Czech Republic where it has operated for nearly 200 years. Many of its products are manufactured there or in New Jersey. The Koh-I-Noor Customer Service office in Massachusetts may be able to provide more information. The Hardmuth 5.6 mm lead holder is very well engineered and constructed for reliability and durability. I have several of them to enable me to use different lead colors, concurrently.

How sturdy is the clip?

The clip is super sturdy because of the bolt that holds it down. I have had my lead holder for 1-2 years and it has never budged yet. As long as you don't loosen the bolt, it won't ever move.
