Amazing product. My dog loves it. She needed a little extra for her thyroid and this helps.

Awesome price. Encouraging results!
First off, this "freeze dried crushed kelp" product costs significantly less than other brands. One big reason for this, I believe is that this brand of crushed kelp isnt ground up into a fine powder the way the more expensive brands are. This brand is crushed for sure but the pieces are comparatively large and you feel like your trying to chew tiny rocks when you eat it or sprinkle it on food. To solve this issue, I at first used a morter and pestle to grind the kelp more. That kind of got old fast so then I tried reconstituting the kelp with a bit of water. That ended up working super well so that's what I do now. I scoop my dose into a small cup and my dogs dose into another small cup and then add just enough water to cover the kelp granules. After a few hours, the kelp is soft and nice to consume. So my dog and I take the kelp twice a day. When we take one dose, I set things up for the next dose. Its quick, easy and the kelp in our diet is already making a big difference-at least for my dog! As for me, I'll report back after I've used it awhile longer. In my dogs case, he definitely has more energy and is much more animated and playful. I'm skeptical when people make miracle claims about nutrient supplements but it's very noticeable in my dog already so its difficult to deny. Also, my dog has ALWAYS suffered from a dry, cracked nose. His poor nose has always been a source of misery for him, so much so that I use to use "nose butter" on it twice a day to help make him feel more comfortable. Within a couple of days(literally) after starting him on this kelp, his nose became cold and wet like a good dog nose should be. I was excited and completely impressed and happy for my pup. Oh and I didn't buy this kelp for any of the reasons that I've stated as beneficial so far. I bought it after learning that kelp is supposed to help a dog form an enzyme in its saliva that kills the bacteria that causes plaque. I just paid $500 to have my dogs teeth cleaned so had been searching for a way to prevent plaque from building up again. I started myself on this kelp for pretty much the same reason, hoping to increase my dental health. The rest of the good stuff that's happening is a major bonus. By the way, if you want the more powderised kelp, you're welcome to go spend $65 for 0.9lbs. I bought this kelp for $57 for 6lbs. I really dont mind the extra effort of rehydrating this kelp at those kind of savings.

Great value in comparison : helps dog's skin
We were looking for organic kelp for our little 8lb schnauzer mix. He was rescued at around 8 weeks and has suffered from allergy, skin, and digestive issues. More recently we stopped feeding him bagged commercial dog food because he was developing allergies to (at that time) an unknown ingredient. I thought it would be best to control the variables in his diet to figure out what was tolerated well, and what wasn't. So basically what he consumes isn't a huge variety, mostly sweet potato based along with a protein source like salmon or mackerel. There was some concern that he wasn't receiving all of the nutrients and minerals in order to keep his skin from flaking (seborrhea). We were paying the same amount for a small, medication-sized container of a kelp-based supplement from the vet. This 3lb container has lasted us almost 7 months and is still 2/3 full. The pieces are small and somewhat "crunchy" (not dry and flakey like I expected); this isn't an issue by any means. The kelp seems to be small enough in order to be absorbed. The smell seems very natural (somewhat like how the sea or ocean smells) - this led me to feel that the product was minimally processed and retained its nutrient value. There is a convenient measuring scoop on the inside that corresponds with the suggested servings, by animal weight, on the label. If you do have a concern that the kelp is too tough for your animal to chew (although I really don't see this as a legitimate concern), the pieces rehydrate well by letting them soak up a little coconut or olive oil. He seems to really enjoy the flavor and loves it on his food. It has helped to improve the condition of his skin as well. I will mention that we even sprinkle some occasionally (about once a month) in our potted plants after watering to help replenish minerals into the soil - they seem to do well on it also.

It worked
My dog had a lot of tartar forming on his back teeth. I fed as directed and after aboyt 6 weeks I did't see any differenc. I owned the product so I figured I'd finish up thr container. I don't remember how long it was, but when I checked his teeth a while later and they looked beautiful. Of course I can't see under the gumline, but I was really impressed with the difference. I re-purchased the product. Wish the wrinkle creams I buy worked this well.

Good product
Works. Just dissapointed that it doesn't tell you in description that it contains cotton like flower. It just says in on top of cap. I did write a previous comment but not really fair to the product. It does work. I just don't want to give it to my dog because of the notification it contains cotton like flower what ever that is.

It works!!
Full disclosure, I’m attacking my dogs’ (bichons, 2 and 3 years old) tartar issues from all angles. They’ve been on the kelp for 5 weeks, brushing with CET toothpaste nightly for about 2 months, and they get the occasional raw lamb shank or rack of beef rib to try to scrape away any accumulation naturally. I hadn’t seen much progress. No additional accumulation, but no real improvement. Not until like 20 minutes ago. They had just finished their lamb shanks and I checked my 2 year old’s teeth, hoping she scraped off some tartar. She hadn’t. Her teeth weren’t awful, but there was a moderate amount of gross brown tartar on her top canines and a little bit on the pre molars right behind canines. I took a fingernail and tried to scrape, like I have a couple times a week for the last month. But this time IT WORKED. Half of the tartar came off in a flake! I scraped the rest off that tooth, went to the next - that came off too! All 4 teeth that had tartar are now basically tartar-free!!! You can see a line on the tooth where the tartar was, from the gum line down. I’m sure that will come off with a little scraping. My 3 year old has a thinner layer of tartar, but on the same teeth. She was much less willing to let me scrape but I did manage to get a flake off before she yanked her head away! I have tried scraping their teeth so often and this is the first time it’s actually done any good. I’m seriously thrilled. Like I said, I’m using a few products and I’ll keep brushing and giving them raw meaty bones. (I’ve cleaned their teeth before just by giving them raw bones daily but I’m paranoid about them cracking teeth) I really do feel like the kelp is a game changer. First photo is of my 2 year old’s now (almost) tartar-free teeth (the line is where the tartar ended). Second photo is of my 3 year old’s teeth, with a flake right at the center of the tooth scraped off. I’m sure the rest will come off when she lets me scrape again. The 2 year old’s teeth were a little worse, the tartar was thicker and there was a dark line of accumulation right at the gum line. I’m giving the kelp to my 1 year old cat as well. His teeth are perfect (though they were perfect when I started giving it to him). None of the animals love the taste, there was some hesitancy when I first started giving it to them, but they’ve gotten used to it mixed into their food. And given these results, everyone is going to keep getting kelp for the foreseeable future.
