Why is this wand so heavy? And why was it so hard to assemble—rope comes off as soon as dog puts in mouth…

My rope hasn't come off and I have a rottiweiler pulling on it. Also, I agree, thie pole is way too heavy.

After 3 months of just occasional use, the red/yellow string toy at the end fell apart. Does the company replace them or sell replacements?

How do you attach end?

I do not understand the question. Which end? The first part of the pole is glued into a metal threaded cover. The end of the fiberglass pole has a round plastic looped cap with a silver hook, and that that has a carabiner that the rope attaches through a plastic loop which surrounds plastic secured wrapping. I would not worry too much, as my dog ate the whole padded rope and tug toy. What is important is the "longer than your arms" pole to give yourself more length for the dog to run a larger circle, (This keeps the dog from jumping on you directly and gives a better work out) and the attachment to connect multiple ropes and tugs. This was the best toy for our larger energetic puppy even though she found it atop our barbecue and destroyed the rope and toy sent with the product.
