Probably the Best "Proper" Gas Can Made Today
I have searched long and hard to find a decent gas can that could both pour and not fall apart during hot and cold swings. This can takes the cake! I have actually bought three of these because they are metal, pour quite fast despite not having a vent, and are made of metal so they should last many years of "consumer" service. I say this having used these type cans at job sites, in shop environments and now at home. Pros: Funnel does not get in the way of filling and is easily removed for filling a vehicle- use a different funnel though; this one is top heavy when filling vehicles. Can seals very well- no gas smells even when filled in the morning and sitting in the sun all day- no leaks either. The can will safety vent before exploding as is stated in the product literature. The plastic ones always seem to split under these conditions. No pun intended. Funnel and pouring scheme work for fuel tanks both large and small- you can pour too fast and fill the funnel faster than it empties causing spills if you are not careful. The funnel flips out and locks to aid in pouring. Galvanized steel with a flawless red powder coat finish. The funnel is the only plastic part on this can. This will last many years. Has a built in spark arrestor - this is good as I can see in theory how a flame might be able to travel into the can under the right conditions. This has a safety device to prevent that from happening. OSHA and NFPA approved. These are the cans you WANT on your job sites Cons: Dirt accumulates easily in the funnel- funnel is not covered and on a windy day dirt visibly accumulates in the funnel. Removing and storing it could solve this issue There is no "good grip" on the bottom of the can when pouring. Rather you grasp the can by the slightly recessed bottom and hold on. This gets tiring when filling a vehicle, man-lift, or any other application where you are pouring the entire can at once. The spark arrestor makes it hard to visually see how much fuel is left in the can when filling. I stop filling when the pump clicks off. I suppose all metal cans suffer from this issue.

Excellent can!
I own two of this type of can by Justrite--one a one-gallon can I use for 2 cycle mixes and this one for my other equipment. I know that metal cans do help to maintain the volatility of gasoline much better than other materials as long as the opening is tightly sealed when not in use. This can does exactly that. It is well-constucted and does keep the gasoline sealed very well against evaporation due to the strong spring that holds the cap tightly over the opening. There is no splashout while traveling as well, and there is no need for a pesky vacuum release cap that needs to be opened in order to allow proper gas flow. I like that aspect of these cans. I would suggest that if you require a can that can keep your gasoline in the best state that it needs to be over more extended periods of time, this is the can for you. Amazon made sure I received it well packaged and arriving in good time, which is usual for that company as far as I'm concerned, so the entire experience of buying and using this item should be a good one. Also, I do like the funnel that comes with this can, although the little strap connection, which holds the funnel to the neck more securely, can be a bit fragile. I broke that little part early on, but it does nothing to hamper the use of the funnel at all. This funnel already slides nicely over the neck without that little strap. I would suggest that if you buy this can, make sure you hold the can straight up over the funnel while pouring so that the flowing gas does not drip over the inside edge of the funnel. I use this funnel on my smaller can, too, because it is easily removed and fits perfectly over the neck on both. Due to its strength and great sealing qualities, I would strongly recommend this gas can from Justrite.

My choice in gas cans for long term storage or transport
Good, solid gas cans (I have 4) just DO NOT OVERFILL THEM. If you overfill them and they get hot the vapor pressure can cause gas to leak out of the self closing lid or even worse come out like a geyser. Don't ask me how I know. Otherwise they are rugged and a TOTAL PITA when lugging them around, lifting them and slowly emptying them into a gas tank while trying to minimize spills. Exactly as they should be.

Its nice to still find quality products that are still made ...
Its nice to still find quality products that are still made in the USA for a reasonable price. The only choice at the big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes is that absurd cheap quality plastic gas can with that stupid malfunctioning spring activated nozzle that you have to twist and then push down on while at the same time holding a heavy can full of gasoline in midair. With the plastic cans if you leave them in the heat for even a small length of time the pressure builds up so much that when you depress the nozzle a huge amount of pressure is released and will blast out a gush of gasoline. You can feel the quality of the Justrite can the moment you pick it up. Solid feel , heavy gauge metal and beautiful paint job on it. Its actually nice to look at. I also like the way the funnel works with the no nonsense easy pour spout and auto closing lid. This is one of the best bargains on Amazon

Good can, best I can find
While not perfect, it seals closely enough to allow transporting gas in my trunk without stinking it up (still not a recommended thin to do). The plastic funnel is a bit better than other similar brands and is easily removable. This is very important for refilling the can, which is difficult even with the funnel removed. All safety cans are, and this one is just like the rest in that respect. Fuel costs too much to waste, and these cans don't tip or spill. Cheapo plastic cans cost about 1/3rd to 1/2 as much, and never, ever last as long. Most of the newer safety spouts are nearly impossible to operate, too. Simple, tough, safe. Pays for itself quickly in fuel not spilled. I wish they would engineer a locking mechanism that would allow the spout to be held open while pouring or filling. Right now, it is essential to squeeze the can rather firmly in your grip to keep the spout open, which is challenging for weaker persons.

These are great.
I have had so many blow-mold plastic cans break at the seam, or leak at the cracked lid, I decided to go back and try a steel can, like they all were 60 years ago. Except they have much improved in 60 years. This thing is a tank (groan), and very well made. I'm sure it will outlive me. And the shape of it makes it much easier to carry and pour than the typical plastic can shape. Other reviewers have noted the plastic funnel hinge being a weak spot, and it probably is. I would have bought it without an attached funnel--attached is nice--but we all used to just use a loose funnel just fine. It was just part of the routine: grab the gas can, grab the funnel, fill the mower. When it breaks I'll be no worse off than that, and until then, the attached funnel is nice.

Made me wonder why I waited so long to get the best.
There is nothing to dislike about this durable and safe gasoline storage can. It is quality-made. It seals securely for safety purposes. It transfers gasoline to a car, lawnmower, generator, etc without annoying leaking or dripping. It has a built in flame arrestor in the nozzle that does not impede the flow when filling the can. It has a comfortable carry handle. I thought I was saving money by buying 5 Gal. plastic gas cans, but I was actually buying problems over time. I'm sorry I waited so long to buy a gasoline storage can that brings total peace of mind when it comes to safety and ease of use.

No more plastic cans!
I was tired of dealing with plastic cans. The ones I had didn't seal well. They had anti-spill spouts that were more like anti-pour spouts and were generally frustrating to use. I wanted a metal can. At work, we use these Type 1 safety cans for various liquids. Having experience with them, I determined this would be my best solution too. I knew I needed the model with the attached funnel for filling the lawnmower, snowblower, and tiller. I'm glad Amazon had this configuration! Justrite has been making this can for a number of years and it's easy to understand why! It's easy to fill at the gas station and easy to line up to fill a gas tank on power equipment. The handle on top is used for carrying and for opening the fill flap. It's much more intuitive than any of the plastic anti-spill spouts on the market. My only complaint is with the fit of the funnel. Make sure it's snapped fully in place when going to fill a gas tank on your equipment. If it's not snapped fully in place, it can make a mess. Pros: + Made in USA (as of 2012) + High quality + Easy to use Cons: - Funnel could be better

This type 1 can leaks ALOT
Just purchased and received one type one 5 gallon and one type two 5 gallon tank. Went to fill them both up last night. I only live live 2 kilometres ( 1 mile ) from the gas station. When i got home the back of my Jeep was full of gas coming out of the top of the can. After cleaning the mess, i checked both cans for leaks, and tilted them just a little. The can was spilling alot on its own. I will be posting some videos in a couple of days. I am very disappointed and will be returning the type one can although i will be keeping the type two can. The problem is the seal and spring on the type one is very weak compared with the other. Very unhappy customer

Good concept but it leaked
At first glance this can is a good size and looked well constructed. Unfortunately the first time I filled it up, it leaked near the bottom rim.
