Yes, my Syrian hamster absolutely loves this sand.

Is this real natural sand?

Yes - it's been sanitized. I used it for my grandson's mini sandbox. It's very has a very fine grain.

Is this safe for pets?

My dog has never bothered with it so I don't know...however, it's just sand and my grandson gets it all over the porch when he plays with it in his little sandbox.
