Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose
I bought two of these and as with any Carvewright product, it's a 50/50 gamble. Installed the first one, started carving and it broke, not 20 minutes into the project. About a 1/4" of the tip broke off and it was $40 down the drain. Called LHS and they said that I had done something wrong. Not! Anyone who owns one of these machines knows that you have to treat it like a baby, maintain everything, no exceptions at all. Anyway, I still had my project installed in the machine so without adjusting a thing, I started the project again with the second bit. Went smooth as pie, 2 hour project but the first bit broke in the first 20 minutes. I know, I know, it was my fault, LHR (Carvewright). It's always the customer's fault. LOL! Anyone dealing with these people on a regular basis might find this a bit funny.

Mine broke after 5 minutes
I had a similar problem. I've learned to keep spare bits on hand, particularly the 1/8" cutting bit. Break one, you're done if no spare. Yes, you can break that delicate cutting bit with hard wood, too deep a cut, or a machine that needs maintenance. But no one breaks a carving bit. I noticed that my carving bit was showing signs of wear - a bit of wood burning. So I swapped in my spare. After a 5-minute job, it broke on the next project. I swapped back my old bit, same wood, same project, same machine - no problem. Been running the old bit for 4 weeks now, no problem. Clearly the new bit was defective.
