What do mean....too powerful for smaller dogs?

The foam is calibrated for big dogs (Labs, Boxers, all the way up to Great Danes) that have a good amount of weight per square inch.  When a big dog lays on this foam, they'll slightly sink into the top level of Comfort Foam and be fully supported by the middle layer of Support Foam.  The Comfort Layer will mold around their joints and feel very, very comfortable.A small dog (Beagle, Boston Terrier, etc) is too light to sink into the top layer of Comfort Foam.  It would feel stiff to a smaller dog, but comfortable to a bigger dog.

Question 2

Kirby is a 115 lb corso/pit mix. He is a nester. Will the cover hold up to his scratching?

Depends on the extent of the scratching.  My Mastiff is a nester too, she has a throw blankie that she can scratch and nest in. That helps alot.

Question 3

What size for a 98 pound goldendoodle?  He's having knee surgery so wont be allowed up on the couch for a while-- buying this as a substitute.

The most important measurement is the width of the bed. What you want to do is have your dog stand up straight, and measure from the bottom of the paw to the top of the hip or shoulder. This is the amount of room that your dog needs to be in a full 100% stretch position. Compare that measurement to the width of our sizes. You'll want an extra 4-6 inches. For example, if your dog measures 24", you'll do great with the Large, which is 30" wide. But if your dog is 27", you'll want to bump up to the 36" wide XL.  And if your dog is 30" or larger, get the Giant.

Question 4

Why is this bed twice as expensive as the highly rated USA made, excellent foam layer Dogonit bed? Is it the foam height? 7" vs 4"?  or headrest?

I checked on the dimensions of the XL Dogonit bed. They are 40 x35 x 4.  Big Barker XL is 52 x 36 x 7.  My dog weighs about 130 lbs. so the Big Barker is the right choice for him.  I think the 4 inch foam would be flattened after a year or so of constant use.  Also there is a 10 year warranty on Big Barker.  And he loves the headrest.  If you have a really big dog then it might be worth it in the long run to go with BB.
