Dimming Control permits adjustability of light intensity
This is a nicely built small lantern. German engineering and design, but built in China. It has three light modes. There is one centrally located button on the base which controls all functions. Press it once to turn it on, and you get a bright light, press again for a cool bright light, a third press gets a warm light, and a fourth press gets the candlelight mode. In the first three modes, a press and hold will start to dim the light output so that you can adjust the intensity of the light to your preference. Neat! I like the candlelight mode. It actually flickers just a little giving a candlelight effect. The lantern is powered by 3 D cell batteries. The specifications of how long the light will last is based on premium Alkaline batteries. I don't use them opting instead to use premium rechargeables. The drawback of this approach is that premium NiMh rechargeable D cell batteries are expensive, and they take a long time to recharge once depleted. In the long run, they will save you money, and if properly stored and recharged, you'll be using the same batteries a decade later. In the Lite Express Camp 33 lantern they work just fine. Some folks experience power outages on an annual basis. Where I choose to live, we don't have a tornado season because tornadoes don't develop when you're surrounded by mountain ranges. We don't have snow in winter. We are, however overdue for a big earthquake. This rugged little battery powered lantern will be invaluable when "thebig one" hits. I like it and recommend it.

Warm White Light is hard to find.
The people who engineered the LiteXpress Camp 33 came up with a very creative solution to give a high lumin lamp yet an option for a warm white light that is less likely to mess with the melitonin that is needed for a good nights sleep. The lamp is well made. Textured plastic with rubber armor make up the case. It is stout in the hand with a low center of gravity to make it less tippy. It is also a tad bit shorter and the base diameter is a touch bigger than a 32oz. Nalgene. The real genius is in the electronics that control the LED's. This lamp doesn't simply cycle through hi, med, low. The single button operation is very intuitive and allows you to cycle through the three colors of light and with a long press control the brightness which is infinitely variable down to the lowest setting. IMO a brilliant bit of engineering at this price point. The internet tells me LiteXpress is a well established business in Europe so the five year warranty should count for something. If you haven't already, go check out the Streamlight Siege Lantern it has a bazillion five star reviews. Then compare the specs between the two. For me, who is a bit of a flashlight enthusiast, the added value of the technology in the LiteXpress was worth the gamble on a lightly reviewed camping lamp. I'm sure the Streamlight is good but this one is really cool and suits me perfectly. I'm going to need a couple more eventually.

Nice lantern.
This is a nice lantern. 3 colors and candlelight mode - yes it actually flickers in candlelight. I don't know if I'll use that mode but it's pretty ingenious. I wanted a lantern with a warm white light and it has that. It is smaller than I expected which is a good thing. Seems rugged and well made and yet not heavy. I would buy it again.
