Works well to get 5 volts.
These small 12 to 5 VDC Converters provide a handy way to convert 12 VCD vehicle power to charge the myriad number of devices that use that voltage. Good quality and efficient down conversion without a lot of heat made in the process.

Work perfectly with Ring Alarm Key Pad
Works perfectly with Ring Alarm key pad. The USB Micro connector fits without any modification. No need to shave down the donnector. Provides stable current to keep the key pad charged. Great for connecting existing 12V DC line to power Ring Alarm key pad.

They do the job on RING Alarm Keypad, with some tweak.
They do the job on RING Alarm Keypad. As everyone else who have used them for RING Alarm Keypad application stated already, there is the need of scalping off a bit of plastic to make the plug fit. But as hardware per se they work.

Supplies Power for Ring Keypad
I installed two of these converter modules when converting my old built-in alarm system to a Ring alarm. I replaced the old alarm keypads with Ring keypads, and used the power from the old alarm through the wires in the wall. It was a fairly easy DIY project. As others have mentioned, the USB connector on this converter doesn't quite fit into the back of the Ring keypad. This is probably a Ring design flaw. I just used a small file to remove some of the plastic from the USB connector, and it fit fine. Recommended.

Perfect for powering Ring alarm keypads when upgrading from old wired alarm system
I upgraded our old, wired alarm system with a new wireless Ring alarm system. The Ring system utilizes keypads that are either battery operated or can be powered by 5V DC using a micro USB plug. Since our old alarm system includes a 12V DC power supply, it was a simple matter to use the existing alarm wiring to bring 12V DC to where our new Ring keypads would be mounted (basically covering the holes from our old alarm keypads). This DC-DC buck converter module is then able to convert the 12V DC power to 5V DC and deliver it through a micro USB plug directly into the new Ring keypads. The only obstacle I encountered during this project, was that the plastic molding encasing the micro USB plug of the DC-DC buck converter is very prominent. I needed to shave about 0.04 inches in thickness from one side of this micro USB plug to allow the plug to slide into the micro USB receptacle on the keypad. This is easily accomplished with a sharp knife (or razor blade scraper) and some sandpaper. I measured the output voltage of the DC-DC buck converter at 4.97 volts, which is near perfect for USB. The DC-DC buck converter measures 2.5 x 1.04 x 0.53 inches in dimension allowing it to easily slip through the existing wall hole where it is out of the way. This converter claims it can supply 3 amps of current. My keypad is only using a tiny fraction of that, and the converter did not go above room temperature during my initial monitoring. The electronics of this converter are completely sealed, so I feel comfortable having it inside my wall. Now I never have to worry about recharging my keypads. I would not hesitate to use these buck converters again for any other project requiring 5V USB power from a 12V supply.

Perfect for Direct Wiring Ring Key Pad
Perfect DC buck module for direct wiring our Ring key pads. Easy to follow instructions and does not take long to complete the configuration. We used WAGO connectors, which made the process even easier and the price was right.

nice upgrade for your ring keypads - if you have an old wired system in place
If you have a hardwired alarm system in your home and have switched to RING alarms, you can use the legacy alarm (12v) power, if its still plugged in. You will probably need to have the 2 red power wires reconnected and probably a new alarm battery if its been a while. I had the ring retrofit kit installed after I got sick of ADT exorbitant contracts and wanted to go with ring and use as many hard contacts as I could. Installation was simple... red to red and black to black. I cut a notch in the top of the hardwired keypad since mine is still there. Be sure to push the micro usb connection in all the way into the keypad. No more keypad charging for me!

Great for old alarm keypad conversion
Very happy with this product, works flawlessly .This 12 volt to 5 volt converter is a must when upgrading an old alarm system keypad (that is powered by 12v) to the ring (2nd gen) keypad. I was concerned that the micro USB connection to the Ring Keypad might be an issue, but not so, connected just fine. I highly recommend this product if you are considering upgrading an old system to the Ring alarm system.
