I liked it
very informative and it was interesting to learn the amount of weeds that can be used for medicinal purposes and the amount that are also edible

I like weed...ING the garden.
Harland has written an interesting little book. The first section deals with weeds and how to get rid of them if you don't want them, which is useful if you haven't been fighting for years in the trenches in the Battle of The Weeds. In the second section, each weed gets it's own "chapter" and she talks about their history, the edibility, recipes are provided, and whether or not the plant is poisonous-always stressing that one needs to properly recognize and identify plants BEFORE eating otherwise one could die. You can't just trust someone else to be knowledgeable either, for Mother's Day my father and i bought what we were told was a Forget-me-not for my mother...turns out it's a Purple Shamrock or something (we're not huge plant people so how were we to know? We got it because it was pretty). The point is, even the guy at the flower shop didn't know what he was selling and that's his job! So always be sure you 100% know what a plant is before putting it in your mouth. I gave it 3 stars because most of the weeds she mentions are in the UK and only a few places in the U.S. so not really that useful for me, i kinda expected really common weeds but she only mentioned a few like Dandelion, Nettle, and Chickweed...no thistle? She mentions one that i've never heard of, no Candian thistle? No Bull thistle? Thistle that are actually common? I shouldn't complain but if you are going to sell a book about weeds in the U.S. maybe one should have weeds that are not just common in the UK...i'll just have to find something more regional for me.

Excellent book
Excellent book with good descriptions and details on 50 common weeds. Very clear uses and warnings on where to be careful. Thoroughly enjoy reading it and refer to it frequently for both identifying and working out how to use them.A book this size cannot be comprehensive so I use this alongside several other weed, wild flower and foraging books.Photos are good but I would have liked more than the mainly one photo of each plant as having photos of different stages of the plants lifecycle would help - but that is a quibble and would have made it longer and I suspect more expensive.Thoroughly enjoyable and useful book!

Great book, to fill a gap in my horticultural knowledge!
I design Herbal, physic & all types of Medicinal gardens using dandelions and nettles - what some would consider weeds (unwanted plants). I regard these as valued herbs with great benefits nutritionaly and medicinally. This book has lots of interesting plants with great benefits to offer. I like the way it is written with stories associated to the plants, it is now a valued part of my collection to create my Gardensinharmony.comDeborah
