good sized bowl for lathering up your shaving cream or soaps. the grooves and texture (similar to sandpaper, or frosted glass) on the inside of this bowl make short work of lathering up. retains heat fairy well, as it is ceramic, and of respectable thickness. i like the size very much, as my first bowl was too small to whip up a good lather, and fell over easily. this one is fantastic! good weight to it, and the large base means no dumping your lather over anymore.item arrived well (factory) packaged, not one chip to the beautiful ceramic bowl. Included also was a nice small towel, good for using as your pre-shave hot towel for your face. the box it comes in is nice, and will be repurposed for my "shaving kit" utensils. the little bit of fuzz that was on the rim of my new bowl upon opening, came off easily with soap and water. i simply hand washed it like a normal dish. it was of no concern, just a little material that rubbed onto it during its long journey.TIP: if you want hot lather to stay hot a little longer, put your new shaving bowl inside another bowl with hot water (i use the hot water dispenser in my kitchen, it comes out coffee hot). i also pre-heat the bowl and brush by filling it up with hot water, and soaking the brush for a minute while my bowl heats up. the result is rich, hot lather.happy shaving, my fellow hairy people!

This a good bowl. Generates lather very quickly and retains heat.

I wanted a bowl that would hold my soap bar in place. The swirls inside this bowl do that well and they also contribute to a dense lather. I am very pleased.

I have a number of shave bowls and this is by far the best. Great size, lathers super fast, and holds heat. Only thing that would make it perfect would to make it unbreakable.

Good size opening but the fact the interior surface is not glazed makes lather just get stuck in grooves instead of holding onto brush.

This is the smallest ceramic textured bowl I can find. It's still a little bigger than I would like but that is a personal preference. The bowl is easy to hold in the palm of my medium sized hands though. It is very well made and not too heavy. Flat bottom sits securely on the counter top. the interior is not glazed with nice, medium aggressive, textured deep snow flake pattern. Raising a lather in this is fast. It lets me create a thicker, creamer lather than any of my other shaving bowls. A close second is the Linkidea brand that works just as well working the lather, but is a bit larger with a slightly milder texture and has a handy little thumb rest / spout.

Very useful and amazing bowl. Fits in your hand but it can be a bit slippery.

This gets the authentic artisan shaving soap to become a soft whipped cream lather! If you want a real whipped cream lather, this bowl can help you achieve this faster than a smooth bowl. Trying to get an authentic small batch artisan shaving soap, with the tallow, lanolin, and shea butter to lather up into that desirable whipped buttery cream is very hard to do in a standard smooth bowl is very hard to do and takes lots of work--but not with this bowl! I read a complaint this will tear up a brush--I have a 28mm $400 two-band badger brush and it works fantastic in this bowl. Artisan shaving soap is like soft beeswax, and so I just spread it thinly into groves of this bowl and I do NOT add water, instead I just use whatever water remains in the brush after soaking it in warm water (never hot water). And then swirl around until I get the creamy lather that I'm looking for. The shaving soap is so smooth that there is no way this is going to gear up your brush, it in facts helps make the lathering work VERY well.
